Lyndal Carey, a loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away on April 3, 2024. Born in Cisco, Texas on May 29, 1936, he graduated from Colorado City High School and later earned an Associates degree in drafting. Lyndal worked for the Soil Conservation Service, Rhode Pipe Company in Silverton, Texas, and finished his career at the US Army Corps of Engineers as a drafter and real estate specialist where he worked on Lake Ray Roberts near Denton, Texas and Joe Pool Lake near Arlington, Texas.
Lyndal had three children during his marriage to Martha Meek Carey: Carolyn Garcia, Michael Carey and Sonya Terry.
Lyndal had an unwavering faith in God. He was a member of Denton Bible Church in Denton, Texas. He was a Master Mason of the Masonic Lodge fraternity and a member for over 63 years. He delighted in donating to charities such as Cal Farley's Boys Ranch, the National Rifle Association, MD Anderson, Boy Scouts of America, and Trail Life.
He loved going to the mountains, especially in New Mexico, trout fishing in Heron Lake, Eagle Nest Lake and Middle Fork Lake as well as the Cimarron River and Red River. He also visited Canada three times and fished in the Canadian lakes.
He loved taking his family on annual summer vacations and never missed the chance to stop to see the local sites. He traveled to every state west of the MIssissippi. He always had a Chevy Impala or Caprice Classic and very much loved finding a good deal.
His favorite western TV shows were Gunsmoke, Tales of Wells Fargo and Cheyenne. You didn't want to come between him and his westerns!
He loved food, especially sweets. His freezer and cabinets were always full of ice cream, Moon Pies, fried pies, candy bars, chocolate covered cherries and every kind of sugary treat you can imagine. He enjoyed cooking and only revealed his secret peanut brittle recipe a couple of years ago. Every Christmas, he spent hours and hours making fruitcake, peanut brittle and brownies for his family and friends.
He enjoyed time spent spoiling his grandchildren and great-grandchildren with sweet treats and fun toys. Every holiday was a reason for spoiling. He loved being surrounded by his family and getting hugs from them every time he had the chance.
Above all, Lyndal valued time spent with family. His legacy lives on through his daughters Carolyn Garcia and husband Richard, and Sonya Terry and husband Johnny, his daughter-in-law Jeannie Carey, his grandchildren Richard Robert Garcia and Stacie Garcia, Daniel Garcia, Johnny Evan Terry, Hunter Terry, Tyler Carey and Jacob Carey, great-grandchildren Madison Garcia, Wyatt Garcia and Gracie Garcia, and surviving siblings, Betty Maynard, Margaret Colley and Nancy Mayo.
