Madeline Elrod Armstrong

HURST -- Madeline Elrod Armstrong, 82, loving wife, mom, grandmother and sister, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2013.
Funeral: 11 a.m. Monday at First United Methodist Church of Hurst.
Interment: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 27, in Fairland, Okla. Visitation: The family will receive friends at 10 a.m. Monday prior to the service.
She was born Nov. 9, 1931, in Miami, Okla., to James and Beulah Elrod. She was the middle sister of five girls. She married Max G. Armstrong on Oct. 28, 1951, and they were married 62 years. She attended NOO College in Miami, Okla. Madeline and Max lived in Illinois until 1956 when they moved to Bedford.
She worked for Chance-Vought Aeronautics, L.D. Bell High School, and the HEB school district, and her last job was with Vandervoort's Dairy for 19 years when she retired.
Madeline loved camping and canoeing and could make "roughing it" a real joy. She made every meal while camping outdoors with an almost elegant touch and made everything enjoyable. Most of all, she was a devoted wife and loving mother who will always have a special place in our hearts. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Hurst and was always active in Eastern Star a number of years as well.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Maurine Elrod Hardy.
Survivors: Her husband, Max G. Armstrong; her children, Jerry Armstrong, Jim and wife, Ramona Armstrong, Stephanie and husband, Tom Alleshouse; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sisters, Erma Elrod Dodson, Elaine Elrod McFerron and Kathy Elrod Camp.
