Margaret Mary Barnett

Margaret Mary Barnett passed through transition on February 19, 2017. She was one day shy of her 93rd birthday.
She was born February 20, 1924 in Okmulgee, Oklahoma, the daughter of Frank Herbert Hillman and Mary Hillman. She had one brother, Frank Herbert Hillman Jr., who was born November 18, 1926.
She entered St. Anthony School of Nursing in Oklahoma City and graduated in 1948 as a Registered Nurse. She would work at St. Anthony’s Hospital and the Veteran’s Administration Hospital in Oklahoma City over her long medical career.
She met Tommy W. Barnett while taking classes at the Okmulgee Branch of A&M College. They married in 1949, and in 1960 she gave birth to her only child, Marianne Theresa, in Oklahoma City.
In 1982, Margaret began her second career at Catholic Social Ministries; working full time in emergency assistance and refugee resettlement. In doing this work, she helped others, served her purpose, and made many friends.
Margaret’s faith was a lifelong commitment and exploration. She joined the Catholic Church and Rosicrucian Order at 15 and studied the Course in Miracles.
She is survived by her brother, Frank Herbert Hillman Jr.; her daughter, Marianne Theresa Adkins; and her five grandchildren- Ashley Painter, Thaddeus Adkins, Madalyn Adkins, Adrienne Adkins, and Zachary Adkins.
The family would like to express its gratitude to Bishop Davies Nursing Care Center in Hurst, Texas and its staff.
Service will be held at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Bedford on Friday March 3rd at 2:00 PM. Interment at Fairlawn Cemetery in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma on Saturday March 4th at 10:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Catholic Relief Services, to help support their assistance of Syrian refugees.
