Margaret Newsom Colburn

Margaret F. Colburn of Grapevine passed away on Saturday, December 17, 2022 after a lengthy battle with cancer. She was born Margaret Newsom Ferguson (Midge) on April 24, 1939 to Margaret (Newsom) and Woodrow Wilson Ferguson in Fort Worth, TX. Except for a short stint in Shreveport, LA Midge grew up in Fort Worth. She graduated with honors from Paschal High School in 1957. She then attended Texas Christian University where she was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1962. She went on to earn a certification as a Medical Technologist from the American Society of Clinical Pathologists.
Midge worked in the laboratories of various hospitals in Fort Worth and Arlington for over 40 years, including Arlington Memorial Hospital and Medical City of Arlington, where she acted as supervisor of the lab Chemistry Department and was a front runner in the transition to utilizing point of care technology that allowed testing to be administered bedside rather than in the lab.
Midge is preceded in death by her father Woody and her mother Margaret, to whom she was a loving care giver for the final years of life. She is survived by her sister Elizabeth (Bibby) Allen and husband John of Grapevine, nephew Jay Allen and wife Amy of Fort Worth, niece Amy Amack and husband Nate of Menomonee Falls, WI, great nieces and nephew Mikayla, Autumn, Colin, and Kendra Amack, and Kenley Allen, along with many beloved cousins and friends.
Visitation for Midge will be held from 12:00-2:00 PM at Lucas Funeral Home in Grapevine, followed by burial service at Medlin Cemetery in Trophy Club at 2:30 PM on Wednesday, December 21, 2022.
