Margie Crawford Wilson

Margie Crawford Wilson, 91, a descendant of one of Fort Worth’s first 250 families joined her husband Virgil and son Virgil (Corky) Jr. in heaven on December 29, 2013.
She was born at St. Joseph Hospital on Sunday July 23, 1922 to William J Crawford Jr. and Carrie Belle McTyer Crawford. Her grandmother was Lee Magers McTyer, a member of one of Fort Worth’s first 250 families. She was raised and educated in Fort Worth attending Charles Nash Elementary School, graduating from Paschal High School and then Texas Wesleyan University. She was a 34 year employee of the federal government. Her early years were spent working at Carswell AFB where she remained friends she met there for the rest of her life. Later in her career she was promoted to Quality Data Manager with the US Department of Transportation in Fort Worth. Sometime after retirement she assisted her friend Dr. Virginia Farrar at Sycamore Family Medicine as a medical receptionist.
One of her great joys was being a third generation member of First Christian Church, Fort Worth’s oldest church. She was enrolled in the cradle roll at one week of age and remained a member at her death to be the member with the longest connection to the church. She served in multiple capacities for the church, as an elder for many years and was elected Elder Emeritus. She sang in the church choir for many years and served as President of Christian Women’s Fellowship for two separate terms. In her later years she called every church member on their birthday to wish them happy birthday from the church.
She lived in Granbury in the 1970’s and early 1980’s and worked diligently for the community. She was responsible for building the Virgil Wilson Bridge connecting park space to downtown Granbury area. She was active in the Democratic Party in Granbury and worked with many candidates to campaign there. She returned to Fort Worth after her husband’s death and spent the last years of her life in her southwest Fort Worth home discussing Fort Worth history and Democratic politics.
In addition to her husband and son, she was preceded in death by her mother & father; a brother McTyer F. Crawford, her grandmother Lee whom she called “Nanny” and was very fond of passed away April 21, 1949 at the same age of 91. She is survived by her cousin, Willie Mae Degge Hamilton.
She felt blessed to be cared for by her family David W. Gill, John W. Robertson & Debra Gardner as well as her lifetime friends Sid and Jeannie Farrar and Ms. Lessie Langford.
There will be a viewing Friday January 3 from 6-8pm at Lucas Funeral Home on Sylvania Avenue in Fort Worth with a graveside service to be help January 4 at 10am at Burke Family Cemetery. A memorial service will be conducted on Sunday January 5 @12:45 at First Christian Church followed by a reception. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Christian Church.
