Marie Winsett

March 23, 1939 — January 17, 2023

Marie Winsett, 83, a beloved wife, mother, family member and friend, passed away after a long illness on Tuesday, January 17, 2023. She and her dear husband Charles Obbie Winsett were married for 60 years and resided in Hurst, Texas.

Her family and friends knew her as “Sweet Marie”. She was born March 23, 1939 the youngest of eight children. Her parents were Frank and Mary Galloway of Mineral Wells, Texas. When Marie was born, her family dubbed her the “Shoe Box Baby” because she was very tiny. They kept her warm by wrapping her and putting her snugly into a shoe box! This explains her life long love of shoes!

Marie and her family later moved to Fort Worth where she graduated from Polytechnic High School in 1957. Marie met and married the love of her life, Charles Obbie Winsett in 1962. They were the parents of three children, Danny, Tammy and Darren.

Obbie worked for Justin Boot Company and they were relocated to Billings, Montana. Marie enjoyed Montana and with her personality made many new friends.

It was there where she met her life long Best Friend Margie who was also from Fort Worth.

Eventually they relocated back to Texas in 1970 residing first in Abilene for several years and then ending up in Hurst, Texas.

Marie loved entertaining, cooking, and being a Mom. Her beautiful smile and warm outgoing personality attracted a multitude of friends. Marie made new friends feel like old friends and old friends feel like new friends. Many of those friends became very close to Marie due to her loyal, trustworthy, and generous nature. Marie was always there when you needed her. When her kids were growing up, all their friends wanted to congregate at her house because she treated them as part of her family.

Marie loved clothes, shoes, jewelry and always looked beautiful! She never seemed to age. She had an Hollywood smile and an infectious laugh but at the same time was also very strong and very protective of her family.

While Marie and her family suffered some very difficult losses with the premature deaths of her beloved sons, Darren and Danny, her family and friends surrounded her, Obbie and Tammy to give them the strength to get through these tough times.

One of Marie’s favorite jobs was working for Dr. David Moore DDS and his staff. Lifetime friendships developed with Dr. Moore and his family and many of his staff. She enjoyed the patients and the feeling was mutual. Her next work opportunity was accepting a job with her Daughter Tammy’s company. Marie managed the front office and supported the sales staff with whatever they needed. It was her smile and greeting that made everyone’s day. Once they met Marie, they never forgot her.

Later in life Marie found her Artistic ability and did several watercolor and pen and ink paintings. She along with her husband enjoyed collecting art with Thomas Kinkade as one of her favorite artists. Marie loved beautiful things and her home always reflected her great taste.

Marie loved traveling and meeting new people. If you said “let’s go”, she was at the door with her bags packed. She enjoyed going to Las Vegas, Winstar Casino, and Sandia in Albuquerque. Marie loved the shows and the slot machines. You could hear her say at the slot machines when she pulled the handle, “ Mama needs a new pair of shoes”! Another favorite outing was attending the Albuquerque Hot Air Balloon Festival.

Marie is survived by her Husband, Charles Obbie Winsett, Daughter, Tammy Winsett, and extended family and friends.
