Marilou Colson

April 24, 1934 — August 12, 2024

Marilou Colson passed away peacefully after a difficult battle with cancer.

Marilou was born in Sacramento CA to William Glenn Litster and Gladys Daisy Bailey. Her mother died from cancer when Marilou was 3 years old. She was adopted and raised by her paternal grandfather George Litster and his second wife, Ida "Pat" Litster.

After graduating from Ukiah Union High School in 1953 in Ukiah CA, Marilou moved to Placerville CA where she met her husband, Donald Forrest Colson. Don enlisted in the US Army was stationed at Fort Bragg, NC where he and Marilou were married on October 2, 1954.

After serving in the Army, they relocated to Northern California and lived in San Francisco, where Marilou started work as a bank teller for Bank of America. They would settle in Sacramento to raise their family. They had a son, Eric Forrest and daughter, Lori Ann. Marilou and Don had a beautiful marriage that lasted 68 years.

Marilou enjoyed her bowling league, doll collecting club, Red Hat ladies group, crafting, showing and breeding pug dogs, dirt bike racing (yes she did!), snow skiing, traveling with Don in their RV, and traveling to visit her daughter and family wherever the Marine Corps' stationed Matt and Lori. She enjoyed camping and spending holidays with her son, Eric and his family. Marilou loved to watch and support her granddaughter, Sarah in her sporting events. She especially loved the many beloved pets they had over the years.

Marilou and Don moved to Fort Worth, TX to be near their daughter for their remaining years. But Don passed suddenly after moving to Texas. Marilou was cared for and loved by her daughter and son-in-law, granddaughters, and two great grandchildren. She loved seeing them and they loved their "Gigi"! She had fun going to the senior center to play bingo and chat with her new friends.

Unfortunately Marilou had fought cancer a few times. And it returned again, but it was too fast to be stopped. She passed peacefully in the middle of the night on Monday, August 12.

Marilou is survived by her daughter Lori Ann Hays and son-in-law, Matthew Hays. Granddaughters: Shannon Goeppel (Markus), Kathryn Hays, Allison Hays, Rachel Hays, and Sarah Colson. Great- grandchildren: Lorelei Goeppel and Beckam Goeppel.

She is preceded in death by her beloved husband Donald, and their son Eric Forrest Colson. And also her birth parents and adoptive parents.
