Marilyn Smith, age 89, passed away peacefully at her home on December 31, 2022 from Alzheimer's.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 5, 2023 at Lucas Funeral Home, 700 W. Wall St., Grapevine, TX from 5:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m.
Graveside Service will be held on Friday, January 6, 2023 at White's Chapel Cemetery,185 S White Chapel Blvd, Southlake, TX at 10:00 a.m.
She was born May 26, 1933 in San Angelo, Texas to Thomas Pryse Sr. and Carolyn Mecalfe. She had one brother, Thomas Pryse Metcalfe Jr. and sister-in-law Nelda Metcalfe. They moved to Franklin, Texas where in 1943 she made her profession of faith and was baptized. Marilyn was a 2-time State of Texas Tennis Champion in doubles. She attended Baylor University in Waco studying to be a secondary and Elementary Teacher. She graduated in 1953. She moved to Fort Worth after graduation and met her husband of 64 years Royal Smith Jr.. She retired from teaching public school after the birth of her son Alan. She started a career as a homemaker and mother. Her daughter Cynthia was born three years later. During the early years of marriage , they traveled for her husband's work until settling down in Dallas, Texas in 1963. She was a devoted wife, mother and guide to all who met her. She and her husband joined First Baptist Church of Dallas and she spent over 40 years as a Sunday School Teacher. They moved to Southlake around 1982 where they built their home.
Marilyn loved the Lord Jesus, her family, friends, college roommates, TriDelts, Southwestern Seminary and First Baptist Church Dallas.
She was preceded in death by her husband R.E and her daughter Cynthia Graves.
She is survived by her son Alan Smith, son-in-law Chip Graves, grandchildren Macey (Graves) and husband Zachary Ciment, Mary Ellen (Smith) and husband Bobby Malone, grandson Chase Graves, and one great-grand son Barrett Ciment with another one on the way.
