Bert Frie

October 30, 1934 — January 24, 2025

Martinez, GA

Marion Bert Frie passed peacefully from this earth on Friday, January 24, 2025, in Martinez, Georgia, surrounded by loved ones. A lifelong resident of Texas, Marion was born in Postoak in 1934 to Harvie and Lora Frie. He moved between farms in Post Oak, Newport, Big Sandy, and Stoneburg before settling in Bellevue, where he attended school and graduated in 1954. After graduation, Marion briefly worked on a shrimp boat—an experience he humorously remembered for the time spent “bent over the rail.” He then joined Lone Star Gas in Fort Worth, starting as a ditch digger and retiring more than 40 years later after building a career marked by dedication and hard work. Reflecting on his life, he humbly said, “It wasn’t always what I wanted to do, not a fancy job, but I did what I had to do to get the job done and pay the bills.”

Faith played a central role in Marion’s life. Some of his fondest memories were of walking home after Sunday evening church services with his family. In 1948, he gave his life to Jesus Christ and was baptized in his church’s new baptistery. His unwavering faith, along with lessons learned farming alongside his father, shaped his character: hardworking, resilient, and selfless.

In 1954, Marion married his lifelong sweetheart, Norma Jo “Tommie” Frie, with whom he shared 67 wonderful years of marriage. Together, they raised three children: Patricia Jean “Paddi” Frie Price, Jeffrey Dale Frie, and Daryl Lee Frie. Marion and Tommie loved traveling the world, hosting foreign exchange students, fishing, and cherishing their grandchildren—their beloved “dumplings.”

Marion is preceded in death by his parents, Harvie Marion Frie (1900–1994) and Lora Lillie Middlebrooks Frie (1910–1990); his wife, Norma Jo “Tommie” Frie (1936–2021); his daughter, Patricia Jean “Paddi” Frie Price; and his grandson, Jeremy Michael Frie.

He is survived by his sons, Jeffrey Dale Frie and Daryl Lee Frie; his grandchildren, Maghan Price Spring, Lora Brooke Price Coday, Jordan Price, Hayley Price Ziegenhorn, Nathan Poe, Natalie Poe, Emory Frie Hammad, Madison Frie, Sydney Frie Cory, and Kendra Frie; and his sister, Joyce Ann Frie Arnold.

Services will be held at Lucas Funeral Home in Hurst, Texas. A viewing will take place on Friday, January 31, from 6–8 p.m., with the funeral service on Saturday, February 1, at 10 a.m., followed by burial at Bluebonnet Hills Cemetery at noon.

Marion’s legacy of faith, perseverance, and love will live on in all who knew him.
