Marjorie "Margie" Walker

Marjorie “Margie” Elaine Walker was born to Johnny Walker and Shirley Dean Harrison on July 14, 1956 in Texarkana, Arkansas.

Marjorie accepted Jesus Christ and was baptized at an early age in her Grandfather’s church in Malvern, Arkansas. When she was young, the family moved to Los Angeles, California. While attending Compton High School she excelled in the band playing the clarinet. After high school, she went to work for the United States Air Force as a civilian Data Entry Specialist. In her spare time she coached her daughter’s basketball and softball teams and was team Mom to her son’s football and basketball teams. She moved to Arkansas in 1992 and worked as a Hotel Event Coordinator and an Administrative Assistant. Although she had a family and a career,Marjorie never gave up on her education. In 2012, she graduated from Henderson State University with a degree in Liberal Studies. After moving to Texas in late 2012, she found a career she loved working for the 7-11 Corporation in Irving as a Property Coordinator Supervisor in the Real Estate Department.

Margie loved to entertain and would often host gatherings for family and friends. She loved music, dancing and movies. Her favorite movie of all-time was Jaws and during the past six years she would force her daughter to watch it with her almost every Sunday. Margie was always the festive one of the family. She would dress up and decorate her office and home for every holiday season. Her latest hobbies included crafting and jigsaw puzzles.

She touched so many lives throughout her journey. She would lend a helping hand to anyone; whether it was monetary or a place to stay. Margie loved life and loved her family as she would often say “To the Moon and Back”. Her greatest joy being her two grandchildren.
Marjorie made her transition from this life to eternal glory on November 29, 2018. She is preceded in death by her father, Franklin Mitchell; mother, Shirley Mitchell; son, Fredrick Sykes and granddaughter, Angel Sykes.

She leaves to cherish her memories her two children: Nicole Gardner of Fort Worth, TX and Pierre D. Sykes of Gardena, CA; her grandchildren: Autumn Sykes (Alain Smith) and Pierre L. Sykes (LaShonda Lewis) of Hot Springs, AR; her sisters: Cassandra Poland (Andre) of Corona, CA and Sherry Lynch of Carson, CA; her brothers: Marvin Mitchell of Malvern, AR, Sidney and Franklin Mitchell of Carson, CA and Eric Mitchell (Brandy) of Hot Springs, AR. A host of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and dear friends.
