Martha was born in Abilene, Texas, on December 17, 1940, to Claude and Ethel Newberry. She was next to the youngest of 8 children. She was raised in Abilene, and graduated from Abilene High School in 1959. She gravitated to the DFW area to start a career in office management. She held various jobs in the area, and did a fair amount of work travel. She spent several years in Germany along with several family members and enjoyed it tremendously.
Upon returning to the US Martha put a hold on her career to stay with her aging mother in Abilene. After the loss of her mother, she became employed by Rosewood resources for many years, eventually becoming office manager. In 2001 Martha married James Lorenz, another Rosewood employee and retired to Possum Kingdom Lake. James had a large family and Martha loved and was loved by them all. In January 2010, James died from an illness.
Martha lived alone at the family home at Possum Kingdom until the house burned in 2011 in the huge fire that struck the area. Martha escaped the fire with only what she could hurriedly load in her car. After an agonizing time with an insurance company, she was able to purchase a beautiful home in Keller, Texas. Martha later became Facebook friends with Ronald Cantrell, whose wife had recently passed away. Martha and Ronald had been childhood sweethearts, and soon they rekindled their romance. They were married on October 5, 2012. Both felt the marriage was heaven sent.
Martha will be forever missed by all, but she has gone to a place where she is no longer in pain.
