Paul was born on July 15th, 1949 in Fort Worth and adopted by his loving parents Marvin and Edith Driskell shortly after his birth. Growing up in Arlington Heights area of the west side, he attended South Hi Mount Elementary, W. C. Stripling Junior High and Arlington Heights High School where he graduated in 1967. While a student in the Fort Worth Public School, Paul discovered at an early age his love of music. As a youngster, he took drum lessons from a neighbor who was a renowned drummer with the Glenn Miller Orchestra and soon Paul had his own set of drums. For many years, Paul played drums in large jazz bands and small groups on the national stage and in local venues. Like many young boys his age, he enjoyed hunting and fishing with his family members and cruising the streets of Fort Worth in his 1962 Impala or his 1966 GTO.
Paul's college career began at Texas Tech University, but the tug of TCU was just too strong to stay away. He graduated from TCU with a major in History in 1971 and received his Master's in History in 1973. He was a member of Phi Alpha Theta, the National Honor History Society.
Paul's love of history led to his teaching, first in Public Schools, then moving on to Hill Community College in 1974 to 1978. In 1978, he was drawn to politics as he came to the attention of Jim Wright after writing a piece that detailed what was about to happen in Iran with the fall of the Shah. Paul joined the 12th Congressional office in Fort Worth and ultimately wound up in Washington, D.C. As the Executive Floor Assistant and Special Assistant to House Majority Leader Jim Wright from January 1978 to January 1986.
After leaving Mr. Wright's staff, he started Paul Driskell & Associates, a political consulting firm and ran that firm until he retired early to be with his family.
