Mary Alice Barley was born January 16, 1922 in Childress County, Texas. She went to her Heavenly Home on December 24, 2017 at the age of 95.
She graduated from Childress High School in 1940 and was an outstanding athlete in basketball, track, and softball.
She married Gene Lumpkin after High School graduation. They had one daughter, Carolyn Sue, born in April 1943. Gene died while serving in the U. S. Navy during WWII.
A few years later, Mary married Norville Barley, and the three of them were a happy family until Norville’s death.
Mary had a long career with Texas Southwest Cattle Raisers Association in Fort Worth. She was a member of the Fort Worth Woman’s Club where she developed a love for Bridge. She continued playing Bridge until she reached the age of 94. She was a member of North Pointe Baptist Church, Hurst. She was also an avid and very vocal Dallas Cowboys fan and her enthusiasm helped them win many games.
She is preceded in death by daughter, Carolyn Sue, son-in-law, Charles Hartman, brothers, J. W. May and Leon May, and sisters, Dotty Clements, and Margie Lumpkin.
Survivors include grandsons, Lance Hartman of Cleburne, Texas, and Chris Hartman of Burleson, Texas, six great-grandchildren, and 15 nieces and nephews.
