Mary J. Petersen, 63, peacefully passed away at home with her husband by her side Monday, May 31, 2021. Mary succumbed to cancer after a two and half year courageous battle. Mary was born to Victor and Carol Wiesner on December 6,1957 in WaKeeney, Kansas. She was raised on a farm in western Kansas where she worked hard and loved taking her radio out to the hay bales to listen to music. Mary was very artistically talented and creative, spending many hours drawing, painting, and making her clothes. In 1976 she graduated from Ellis High school where she lettered in basketball and shot put. After graduating, she moved to Wichita, Kansas where she met her husband Donald. They shared a sweet first date together at Sonic Drive in and were married six months later. They went on to have 5 children, Craig, Brad, Christy, Lindsay, and Danielle. After their children were born they moved to Hurst, Texas and later to Bedford, Texas. Mary dedicated her life to being a fantastic and loving mother. She always did for others before herself. She taught her kids how to be strong, resourceful, and confident. She loved to bake and cook together. After her children were grown she returned to the workforce. She enjoyed selling jewelry and working on the audit team at Sam’s Club. When she retired she most enjoyed spending time with her husband, children, and her 12 grandkids. Mary and her husband were also blessed to raise their granddaughter Veronica. Mary was a passionate quilter. After retiring when she wasn’t in her quilting room sewing she was hunting down material and sharing her quilts with guests. She generously made countless quilts for family and friends but mostly enjoyed making baby quilts. We will all miss her tremendously but she will remain in our hearts forever. Surviving is her husband of 43 years Donald, sons Craig and Brad, daughters Christy (Patrick), Lindsay (Ernesto), Danielle (DJ), grandkids Angela, Austin, Andrew, Lilah, Kiley, Oakley, Brayden, Veronica, Makayla, Noah, Brawnson, and Hunter, sister Elizabeth (John), brothers Ernie (Gina), Darryl (Sara), Theodore, and many nieces and nephews.
