Mary Wisdom Wells, 89, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on Thursday, February 2, 2023.
Visitation is scheduled for Friday, February 10, 2023 from 6:00-8:00 pm at Lucas Funeral Home in Hurst, Texas. The funeral to honor her life will be held on Saturday, February 11, 2023 at 11:00 am at Shady Oaks Baptist Church in Hurst, Texas. She will be laid to rest with her husband, John B. Wells, in a private ceremony on Valentine’s Day at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery.
Mary was born August 19, 1933 in Spanish Fort, Texas. She was raised in the church by her loving parents and grew up with an older sister and brother. The family later moved to Fort Worth where Mary attended and graduated from Technical High School. While in school, Mary was involved in many activities including theater and cheerleading, and learned many valuable business skills. After graduation, Mary moved to downtown Fort Worth where she worked as a secretary for an accounting group. She quickly met her husband, John B. Wells, and soon married on November 16, 1952. They bought a house in Haltom City and joined Riverside Methodist Church where they made many life-long friends. They later moved to Hurst, Texas where they had two daughters, Allison and Holly. They joined First United Methodist Church of Hurst and were active members for many years until moving to Shady Oaks Baptist Church in 1981. Mary was always involved in church activities including teaching Sunday School and Vacation Bible School, and helping lead the children’s choir. Mary also taught Pre-K at St. Vincent’s Episcopal School for several years. She was active in Bible Study Fellowship, Beach Club local missions, and international missions.
Mary was a committed prayer warrior and loved Jesus with her whole heart!
Mary is predeceased by her adoring husband of 70 years, John B. Wells; parents, Roy and Ruthie Wisdom; sister, Betty June Passmore and husband, Charles; brother, Buddy Wisdom; nephew, Kent Wisdom; niece-in-law, Elizabeth Passmore; father and mother-in-law, Bernie and Virginia Wells; brother-in-law, Calvin Wells; brother-in-law, Eugene Wells and wife, Mary Frances; nephews, Robert Wells and Jim Wells. Mary’s surviving family include daughter, Allison Wells Elliott and husband, Chris Anderson; daughter, Holly Wells; grandchildren, Audrey Elliott, John Andrew Elliott, Emily Elliott, Marcus Miller and Sailor Skipworth; sister-in-law, Doris Wisdom; niece, Cheryl Wisdom; niece, Susan Blomdahl and husband, Kelly; nephew, Stephen Passmore and wife, Becky; nephew, Scott Passmore and wife, Jodie; and many beloved cousins and extended family.
