Mary Wright

December 16, 1941 — February 1, 2013

A beautiful light has gone out in the world, but it shines on and even brighter in a better place. Mary F Wright, age 71, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 1st at her home in Hurst surrounded by family. From her birth in Jackson, Mississippi on December 16, 1941 to her death on Friday, she filled our lives with an abundance of love and laughter. She was fourth daughter born to Lester and Emily Sylvester and eventually one of eight children. Telling funny stories about growing up in a large family was one of her favorite pastimes. Mary cherished the relationships with her brothers and sisters even thru adulthood. After graduating from Forest Hill High School in 1960, she married the love of her life, Charlie Wright in 1967. They built their life together in Jackson and eventually had two children, Susan and Stephen. She dedicated her life to her family and always put others first. Always the perfect hostess, she opened her home to countless Easter egg hunts, Thanksgiving dinners, Christmas parties and family birthday celebrations. As a stay at home mom, she devoted her days to volunteering at her children's elementary school. Mary was the president of the PTA, room mother for both Susan and Stephen, coached soccer games, organized Halloween carnivals and editor of the school newspaper. A job transfer in early 1985 moved the family to Hurst, Texas. Her warm hospitality continued as her children entered high school, when she became their friend's "second mom" offering after school snacks, friendly advice and a funny story or two. Eventually, she took on a part time job as a front desk receptionist at the City of Hurst. Mary's sweet smile and warm disposition made her a quick favorite among co-workers. Not to mention all of the homemade desserts she would leave in the break room. She made several long lasting friendships with the ladies at work that remained strong after she retired from the city in 2011. Everyone that knew her, loved her. She was a woman of great kindness, compassion and integrity. Mary loved caring for others and was deeply devoted to her entire family. She was a loving wife, amazing mother, nurturing grandmother and a wonderful friend to everyone. A tribute service to celebrate her life and honor her memory will be held on Saturday, February 9th at Lucas Funeral Home in Hurst at 11:00am.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lester and Emily Sylvester and two younger brothers Jim Sylvester and Bill Sylvester.

Surviviors: Those left to cherish her memory include her devoted husband, Charlie; daughter Susan Wright; son Stephen Wright and wife, Tien; sisters Jeanette King, Margaret Shulz and husband Jack; Esther Cooper; brothers Don Sylvester and wife Claudia; Gene Sylvester and wife Sharon; grandchildren Tommy, Cailyn and Rachel Wright; Brothers in law, Jimmy Wright and wife, Peggy; Bobby Wright and wife, Shelia; 11 nieces and 3 nephews in additional to numerous friends.
