Mathew Dunlap Martin, Jr., loving husband of the late Nancy Parker Martin, was called to his heavenly home on July 27, 2022.
Mathew was born April 20, 1928 in Hackensack, New Jersey, to Matthew Dunlap Martin and Edith Martin. As a youth, Mathew was active in scouting and developed a love for animals which he carried with him throughout his life.
Following his graduation from Hackensack High School, Mathew attended and graduated from the United States Merchant Marine Academy in 1950 with a degree in Electrical Engineering, and he was then commissioned as a Lieutenant in the United States Navy.
Mathew spent the next thirty-plus years as an electrical engineer in New Jersey and New York City before starting his own business in the early 1970’s on Long Island, New York.
In 1973 he married the love of his life Nancy Parker and they remained married and devoted to one another for the next thirty-eight years until Nancy’s death in 2011.
In 1987, Mathew sold his business and moved his family to Arlington, Texas, where his wife became more involved in her family’s business, Trail Dust Steak Houses, Inc.
Mathew had an extraordinary personality laced with humor, kindness, honor, integrity, intelligence, bravery, and perseverance and was an inspiration to all who have been blessed to know him. He was truly the definition of a “gentleman.” He loved his family unconditionally, and his children and grandchildren meant the world to him.
Mathew was preceded in death by the love of his life, Nancy Parker Martin, and beloved eldest son, William Craig Martin. Mathew is survived by his children: daughter, Barbara Jean Dermody and husband, Kevin; son, Matthew Douglas Martin and wife Sheri; son, Steven Bernard Martin; daughter, Ellen Martin Duplantis and husband Chad; and son, Matthew Dunlap Martin, III. Other surviving family members include: daughter-in-law, Amy Martin; sister, Fran Popolizio; former wife, Anne Martin; grandchildren: Brian Dermody, Erin Dermody Carrano, Megan Dermody Badalucco, Heather Martin, Demi Martin Price, Ryan Martin, Daniel Martin, Alyssa Martin Ahrens, Austin Duplantis, Ava Duplantis, and thirteen great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be on Thursday, August 4, 2022 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Lucas Funeral Home, 1601 S. Main Street, Keller, Texas 76248. Dad’s funeral will take place on August 5, 2022, at 1 p.m., in the chapel at Lucas Funeral Home.
