Mattie was raised in Amarillo and was the oldest of the four sisters. At the age of 14 she met her best friend LaVonda Harp which led to the meeting of Ted Harp, LaVonda’s brother whom she was married to for 34 years. Ted and Mattie had 4 children together. Early in their marriage they began to study the Bible with Jehovah’s Witnesses. Soon after they dedicated their life to Jehovah and were baptized together in 1966 as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses. They instilled a deep appreciation for the bible into their children, which led to all four of them to dedicating their lives to Jehovah as well. Mattie and Ted’s children will tell you this was the greatest gift they were ever given by their parents.

Just as strong as her love for her family was her love for the ministry and teaching others about Jehovah. Her friends that knew her well would tell you that she loved to teach the truth of God's word. Her ability to explain scriptures and reach her students hearts was something they always appreciate and admired about her.

Once Ted became ill Mattie started her career in sales to help support her family, a career she would be very successful at over the next 25 years. Ted illness continued to worsen, and he passed away after 34 years of marriage.

Mattie started to write the second chapter of her life when she married John Meacham. John and Mattie were married 24 years until John's death. Despite Mattie and John’s multiple health issues, they had a very happy marriage in which they worked together, traveled together and had a mutual love for music, especially Texas country music.

Mattie was diagnosed with Parkinson’s 2004. Mattie will always be known most of all for her love Jehovah and her love for her family. Mattie was a fierce protector. She loved music and loved dancing and singing, and many remember her as being the life of the party. She truly ‘never met a stranger’. Mattie was a very stylish person and was especially fond of animal print clothing.

Mattie was proceeded in death by her grandson Ashton Lane Peterson, her husband Ted Harp, father Frank Douglas, sister Frankie Wynell, sister Kay Lynn Frosch, son Dallas Wayne Harp, mother Evelyn Douglas and husband John Meacham.

Mattie is survived by her three daughters CaNetta Chandler and her husband Steve of Baytown Texas, Edie Peterson and her husband Robert of Fort Worth Texas and Brittiany Bryant and her husband Darin of Fort Worth Texas. She also leaves behind one sister Clara Elizabeth McNeil.

Mattie is also survived by her 12 grandchildren who all at one point occupied the title of Mattie’s favorite. Her grandchildren are Austin Harp, Dylan Harp, Savannah Granados, Justin Mireles, Alyssa Keen, Jordan Neff, Kory Peterson, Taylor Peterson, Olivia Bryant, Sydney Bryant, Ava Bryant and Levi Bryant. Along with her sweet great grandchild Harlow, she is also survived by many nieces and nephews whom she loved very much especially Parish who she loved as a daughter.
