Maxie Wayne Sledge

February 28, 1957 — August 23, 2022

Maxie Wayne Sledge was born February 28, 1957 in Tyler, Texas to Roe Wayne and Elizabeth Charlyne Sledge. He passed away on Saturday August 20th 2022 in Hurst, Texas.

He graduated from Plano High School where he marched in the school band with the trombone, played football, and sang in the choir. Maxie was on the Baylor Bear football team his freshman year and a member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity at Baylor University where he received his bachelor and masters degree. His love for music continued and he became a member of the Cornerstone Quartet where he met his best friend Lee, and also sang in the church choir.

Maxie loved to travel, and in the short time he lived in California he found a love for hiking in the mountains at Big Bear. He liked to be outdoors, golfing, swimming, and being on the lake. Working alongside his best friend at the “land” in southeastern Oklahoma, he rode four wheelers, and just enjoyed spending time with family and friends. But his greatest joy in life was taking care of his family, and Sundays with his nieces and nephews.

He is survived by his daughters, Chelsea Peña and husband David, Haley Florence and her husband Joshua as well as Joshua’s son Landon. His sister Julia Rosol and husband Joe. Nieces Mandy Howard, Ashley Theiman and husband Ben. Great nieces and nephews Colton, Cooper, Mason, Jackson, and Maddison. As well as numerous people he loved and loved him.

He is preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, and many beloved aunts and uncles.
