Maxine Ray DeAngelo

May 30, 1943 — October 14, 2024

It is with heavy hearts and much love that we mourn the passing of our beloved mother, Maxine, affectionately known as "Mimi" and "Mackie" to many, on October 14, 2024, at the age of 81. She passed at the Harris Methodist Hospital in Fort Worth, Texas, after complications related to pneumonia.

Born on May 30, 1943, in Lake Village, Arkansas, Maxine was a woman of remarkable grace, boundless love, and extraordinary resilience. Her radiant smile and kind heart left a lasting impression on everyone

who had the privilege of knowing her. A dedicated military wife, Maxine moved frequently throughout her life, supporting her husband (Santo), through assignments that included two tours in Germany as

well as stays at Fort Bragg, North Carolina; Fort Benning, Georgia; and San Antonio, Texas.

After 33 years of marriage, she was widowed and later settled in Bedford, Texas, in 2007, where she became a daily presence in the lives of her grandsons, Brayden Stone Owens (17) and Levi Stone Owens (15). Maxine forged countless friendships in Texas, and her loving nature touched everyone she met,

earning her the cherished nickname "Mimi." One of the happiest moments of her life was celebrating her 80th birthday, surrounded by over 125 friends who came together to honor and celebrate her.

Maxine will always be remembered for her loving heart, her sense of humor, and her genuine ability to care for others. She was a one-of-a-kind soul, her daughter's best friend, and her sons' biggest supporter.

She is survived by her two sons, Cedric DeAngelo (Eva) of Lakeland, Florida, and Robert DeAngelo (Anne), a full-time RV adventurer; her daughter, Angela DeAngelo Owens (Greg) of Bedford, Texas; and Stephanie Simon Smith of Mansfield, Texas, whom she lovingly thought of as a daughter. She is also survived by her former daughter-in-law, Michelle Fee (Michael), eight grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild; along with many cherished nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends.

Maxine was preceded in death by her parents, Jewel and Hamp Whittington; her brothers, Desmond, Roy, Troy, Cecil, and Bobby Joe Whittington; her sisters, Laverne Stepp and June Hallman; her grandson, Trey Hall; former daughter in law Brandy DeAngelo; and her beloved husband, Santo Robert DeAngelo, who passed away in 1993.

Though she is no longer with us, her warmth, humor, and unconditional love will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew her.

A graveside service will be held at Saint Isidore Catholic Cemetery (also known as Our Lady of the Lake Cemetery) in Lake Village, Arkansas on Saturday, March 15, 2025, at 11am. The family will gather afterwards in the Parish Hall at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church.
