Maxine "Mackey" Irving Pavey

August 4, 1926 — March 21, 2016

Maxine “Mackey” Irving Pavey, 89, died peacefully in her sleep on March 21, 2016 after a long battle with dementia. She was born in Tacoma, Washington on August 4, 1926 to Maude and Christopher Grieve. She was the oldest of 4 children.

She met and fell in love with Louis Arnold “Arnie” Pavey in Tacoma. They were married on March 20, 1946. She was a dedicated homemaker and a steadfast support for Arnie. They moved to Livingston, Montana for a better job for Arnie and to start their family. They would eventually have 5 children. They had several businesses but eventually bought the Willow Park Motel in Livingston in 1959. Then, seeking even stronger opportunities, they sold the motel in 1964 and moved to Texarkana, Texas, where they bought the A&W Root Beer stand in Texarkana, Arkansas. That business closed in 1985, but over the subsequent years they would encounter people who spoke longingly of the food and wished that they could have just one more “Whistleburger”.

Mackey's greatest joy was always their children: Colleen, Scott, Shelley, Kip and Brett. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt and friend to countless people. She will be dearly missed. Her ashes will be spread alongside Arnie's at a picturesque cabin in the remote mountains of her beloved Montana.

She was preceded in death by Arnie, her beloved husband of nearly 61 years; her parents; and her brother Richard Grieve.

She is survived by her sister, Judy Figgins; her brother Doug Grieve and his wife Barbara; her daughter Colleen Sallee and her husband Gordon; her son Scott Pavey and his wife Mary; her daughter Shelley Rench and her husband Jimmy; her son Kip Pavey and his wife MaryAnn; her son Brett Pavey and his wife Karla; her grandson Joshua Sallee and his wife Jennifer and their two daughters Annabelle and Samantha; her grandson Justin Sallee and his wife Traci and their two daughters Mayla and Alayna; granddaughter Megan Haessig and her husband Stefan; granddaughter Caitlin Pavey; grandson Casey Rench and his wife Lauren and their two daughters Ruby and Georgia; grandson Jordan Rench; granddaughter Kelly Rench; grandson Blake Pavey; grandson Taylor Pavey; granddaughter Sara Pavey; grandson Ryan Pavey; and nieces, nephews and countless friends; and because of blended families, too many others to mention.

Mackey's memorial service will be held at Lucas Funeral Home in Grapevine, Texas on April 9, 2016 at 2PM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you consider having a tree planted in her memory or donating to your favorite charity.
