Maxine Laverne White

Maxine LaVerne White of Grapevine, who devoted her life to Jesus and her family, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, September 27, 2020. She was 98 years old. Maxine was born on August 27, 1922, to Jennie Ethel (Templeton) Rains and Leslie Creed Rains on a farm outside of Caldwell Kansas. She attended Caldwell Schools and graduated from Caldwell High School where she met the love of her life, Marvin E. White. They were married in San Antonio Texas on August 14, 1944, while Marvin was in the Army Air-Corp. After Marvin’s service, the young couple returned to the Caldwell area where they spent their lives farming and raising their beloved daughters.

Maxine, known to her family as Mackie, mom, grandma, and Gg, was a faithful servant of Christ. Her one true wish for her family was for each of them to know Jesus and honor Him. Maxine devoted her life to her husband and her family. She was always ready to serve cake, cookies and candy to those who walked through her door. She loved cooking fried chicken and making homemade malts to take to Marvin and whomever else was working the fields.

Maxine and Marvin moved to the DFW area in 2005 after retirement in order to be closer to family. Maxine was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin White, daughters Marva Jean White and Vickie Lynn Garton along with numerous brothers and sisters and her parents. Maxine is survived by her daughter Connie Traverse and husband Gil, daughter Paula Helmke and husband Lawerence, grandchildren Alan Traverse, Staci Wayant, Lynn Styles, Crystal Lakey, David Helmke, Elisha Cannatella, and Courtney Guthrieand sister-in-law Geneva Preston Rains . Maxine was also blessed with households of great-grandchildren, great great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews who were loved beyond measure.

A funeral service is being held for family on Thursday, October 1st at 1:00 pm at Lucas Funeral Home in Grapevine Texas. Friends can watch the service via live stream at: https://video.ibm.com/channel/tmab4jDHmbG . A subsequent graveside service will be held 2:00 pm on Saturday October 3, 2020 at Spring Creek Cemetery, Grant County, Oklahoma. Both services will be officiated by Maxine’s nephew Leon Slape.
