Melanie Janice Williams passed away peacefully on December 12, 2023, at her home in Hurst, Texas, after a lengthy illness. She was born on March 12, 1942, in San Antonio, Texas, to W.W. Whiteside and A.O. Jutzi. Her family later moved to Shreveport, Louisiana, where Janice graduated from Fair Park High School in 1960. She attended Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, Louisiana, where she met and married Jim Williams, a fellow student with whom she spent her remaining 63 years.
Janice was a devoted Christian who actively participated in church activities and was particularly proud of the adult women she served to teach for several years at First Baptist Church of Hurst. Janice also served as Chapter Regent of the Daughters of the American Revolution in Irving, Texas. After her two sons, David and Jim, had completed high school she worked as a clerical staff member at several mid-city dental offices. In her leisure she enjoyed travel with her husband and friends and counted a three-month trip to Italy with her husband and beloved cat, Lucy, as a “once in a lifetime” experience.
Before the ravages of illness, Janice’s beautiful smile and sweet disposition were a blessing shared by many. She is missed.
Janice is survived by her husband Jim, two sons David and Jim, Jr., daughter in law Jamie, Granddaughters Alicen and Hannah and Grandsons Tyler and Hunter.
Melanie will be laid to rest January 9, 2024 at 11:15 am at the Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery in Dallas, Texas.
