AZLE -- Melvin Vernon Page, 97, went home to be with his Lord on Saturday, Aug. 17, 2013.

Funeral: 2:30 p.m. Monday at Lucas Funeral Home, Hurst, with burial in Mount Zion Cemetery in Midlothian. Visitation: The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Memorials: In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Vernon's honor to Christ's Haven for Children, Keller, Texas, at christshaven.org.

Vernon was born on April 18, 1916, to Nancy Lee Rucker Page and Joseph Garner Page. He was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ, most recently Legacy Church, previously known as Pipeline Road Church of Christ.

Vernon was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Rita Joy Pollock Page; son, Grady Page; sisters, Dessie Page, Gertrude Gough, Reba Chism, Willie Tomlinson, Inez Belken, Lucille Dean and Almeta Wilkinson; brothers, John Page and J.W. Page.

Survivors: He is survived by his daughter, Gail Steagall; son-in-law, Red Steagall; son, Steve Page; grandsons, Carl Steagall, Steven Steagall and wife, Deborah; great-grandson, Darrin and sister, Alene Crouch.
