MEMORIAL SERVICE: 10 a.m. Saturday, September 2, 2017 at Lucas Funeral Home, 1601 S. Main, Keller, Texas 76248
INTERMENT: Private. September 1, 2017 at Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery with military honors.

Melvin was born on August 16th, 1921 in Spring Lake, New Jersey. He was a kind, gentle man who was loved by all who knew him. Melvin was a Veteran US Army Corporal having served four years from1942 to 1946 at Ft. Dix New Jersey as a paratrooper. When Mel relocated to Reno, Nevada to be close to his brother Joseph & his family, he met the love of his life, Hildur Christina “Chris” Webb. They married in 1972 and were “Soul Mates” for 39 years. They were inseparable and he treated her like a queen. Their blended family added his 4 children by his first wife Helen Marie Bernard to her 5 children by her first husband Stephen E. Webb. The highlight of their life was to celebrate their 25th Wedding Anniversary by taking trip to Sweden in1997 to visit Chris’s relatives that she had never met. They were invited to come and stay with Ulla Britt and Douglas Modin, her 2nd cousin. They were able to meet many family members and learn so much history about Chris’s family roots. They were entertained like royalty. Through the years Mel and Chris celebrated many wonderful family reunions at Lake Tahoe with Chris’s children and their families. They relocated to Layton, Utah for several years before moving to Keller, Texas in August of 2009 to live close to Chris’s daughter and family. Evergreen Senior Apartments became their home in Keller, Texas. Mel lost his beloved wife, Chris, in August of 2011. In April 2017, Legacy at Bear Creek became his final home until he passed away. He loved to play bingo, watch the Texas Rangers and Dallas Cowboys, watch old TV series, eat at Whataburger, and play solitaire on the computer. Mel and Chris became members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and were sealed as husband and wife on April 20th, 1991 at the Oakland Temple in Oakland, California. Their Latter-day Saint roots followed them all the way to Texas where members of their church continued to minister to Mel until he passed away. He loved visits from the Bishop, his home teacher and the missionaries. In 1989 Mel retired from his job as a journeyman grocer. Mel and Chris actually met as employees in a grocery store, she was a checker and he worked frozen foods. God was Good when he placed them in each other’s path.

Melvin was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Hildur Christina Steward, his parents Melvin Steward and Isabella Griffith, brother Joseph Norcross and sister-in-law Margaret Norcross.
