Michael Steven Cleckley, loving husband, father, brother and pop pop, passed away Thursday, December 17, 2020. He was 66. A visitation will be held from 5:00pm to 7:00pm on Monday, December 28, 2020 at Lucas & Blessing Funeral Home and funeral service will be on Tuesday, December 29, 2020 at 1:00pm.
Mike was born April 28, 1954 in Newport News, Virginia to Donald Jackson and Louise Brackett Cleckley. He was a talented musician from an early age. Mike grew up in Hampton, Virginia, graduated from Hampton High School in 1972, and attended Thomas Nelson College. Music became his passion and he spent many years traveling the east coast playing the keyboards in multiple bands including Church, August and Fifth National Band to name a few. One band Mike played in did a two-week performance at Guantanamo Bay Naval Base in Cuba, while he was still in high school. Mike then went into retail management working at Hechinger’s, managed opening numerous stores for Lowes, Rite Aid and Dollar General, earning multiple awards and distinctions.
He married Heather Ryan in 2005 in Corolla, North Carolina. They were happily married for fifteen years. Mike loved music, traveling, food and his family. He was ecstatic to meet his two new granddaughters, Sophia and Emma. Mike was known to his friends for his kind and caring personality.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Louise.
He is survived by his wife, Heather; children, Ryan, Elizabeth, Clayton, Steven, Caterina and Keegan; brother, Scott; and two granddaughters, Sophia and Emma. He will be deeply missed by his friends, family and all who knew him.
