Michael Paul Cook passed away unexpectedly on June 4, 2018 at Baylor Scott & White Medical Center in Grapevine, TX. He was born on March 18, 1949, in Oklahoma City, OK, the son of late Joseph "Joe" Charles and Alma "Mickey" Laverne Cook. He was the oldest of three siblings. He was united in marriage to Debby Combs Cook on January 31, 1969 and had just celebrated their 49th anniversary.
Mike graduated from Northwest Classen High School in 1967. Shortly after graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Army Reserves as a Medical Corpsman and was honorably discharged in 1975. Mike started his career as a Sales Representative with Bunzl Distribution in 1980 at the Oklahoma City Branch. In 1981, he moved to Dallas to start up the North Texas operation. In 1983, he returned to Oklahoma City as Sales Manager and was promoted to General Manager in 1984. In 2001, he became General Manager of Bunzl in Dallas. In 2008, he was named General Manager of the year and awarded the coveted 'Green Jacket'. In 2014, he retired after 34 years of service. Mike was known for his hiring, mentoring, leadership, support, generosity and commitment to Bunzl. There are numerous people who are now GM's or above that have worked with and grew as part of Mike's team. He gave the best advice and was like a dad to many. Mike was an avid gun collector, hunter, fisherman, golfer and especially loved bowling with his daughter.
Mike is survived by his wife, Debby Cook; son, Mike Cook and wife Pam of Choctaw, OK; daughter, Sarah Cook-Crittenden of Keller, TX; grandchildren, Aaron, Kendall and Lana, whom he loved dearly and were his pride and joy; and brother, Gary Cook and wife Laura of Ohio. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Mickey Cook and his brother, Charles Terry Cook. Mike will be missed by countless friends, co-workers and relatives.
A service celebrating Mike's life will be held at 1:30pm on Friday, June 22nd at Irving Bible Church, 2435 Kinwest Pkwy. Irving, TX 75063. Arrangements are under the direction of Lucas Funeral Home in Grapevine, TX.
Mike left a legacy that will be remembered forever.
