On April 11, 2024 at the age of 60, Michael Gregory Gibson passed away surrounded by some of his closest loved ones.
Michael Gregory Gibson was born on January 13, 1964 in Jamaica Queens, New York to Estelle Constance Gibson and Joseph Lionel Gibson, Sr. As the youngest child, Michael was the last piece to make the Gibson family complete.
Michael was a superstar athlete spending majority of his upbringing on the basketball court. Following in the likes of his favorite childhood basketball player Dr. J. Michael led his high school team to a state championship. (Run- DMC weren't the only superstars walking the halls of Andrew Jackson High School.) Utilizing his talents, he earned a basketball scholarship to Howard University majoring in business administration and minoring in psychology. In addition to attending Wharton College, upon his move to Texas. Michael would remain a serious prominent for acquiring education.
Michael also known as "Mike" or "Big Mike" through his years. Would decide in 1984 to join his sister Elaine and Brother- in- Law, Sahr, in Texas. He started for ASA Airlines before switching to American Airlines in DFW on Fleet Service where was a beloved and respected employee for over 30 years.
This move to Texas proved to be one of his best decisions. In 1986 he met his soon to be wife Cheryl, they would date for two years before tying the knot in 1988 amongst their families and loved ones. Soon after, Mike and Cheryl decided to expand their family adding their beloved dogs, Duke and Sheba, before welcoming their son, Michael in 1989 and later completing their family with the addition of daughter, Bianca in 1991.
Michael was a true extrovert at heart if you met him, you would not forget his lasting impression. Michael was a 6 '4 a giant and gentle at heart. He had many passions, interest and hobbies including: his love for basketball (Kobe was the best in his eyes), The New York Giants (booooo Cowboys), his love for New York (he would visit as much as he could and put you on to all things New York: Jamaican beef patties, Junior's Cheesecake, Mr. Softee, Italian ices, and Joe's Pizza) and his love of family: his immediate family with wife Cheryl and extended family across multiple states often checking on them.
Michael was preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Estelle; father-in-law, George Montgomery; mother-in-law, Alice Montgomery; brother, Joseph, Jr. “Lonnie”; brother-in-law, Forest; niece, Mechie; cousin, Bobby and precious dogs, Duke and Sheba.
He is survived by his beloved wife of over 35 years, Cheryl (Montgomery) Gibson; son, Michael; daughter, Bianca; sisters, Diane and Elaine (husband Sahr); sisters-in-law, Erica, Tiffany, and Charlotte; nieces, Jasmine, Janell, Melinda, Samatha, Chevonne, Brittany, and Kayla; nephews, Andrew, Rockman, Jerome, and Wendall; great nieces and nephews, Ava, Carter, Layla and Kyrie; cousins, Spencer, Betty, Pete, Kitty, Shirley, Viola, Mary, Gloria and Ralph.
Visitation will be held from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M., Friday, April 26, 2024 at Lucas Funeral Home in Hurst. Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 P.M., Saturday, April 27, 2024 also at Lucas Funeral Home in Hurst.
