Michael “Mike” Walker was born on June 19, 1951 in Lubbock, Texas to Tullus and Rowena Walker. He passed away unexpectedly on March 2, 2023 at the age of 71. Mike was a loving husband, father, and grandfather, gifted President of his company, passionate golfer, expert storyteller, premier idiom articulator and devoted follower of Jesus.
Mike has always had presence and that presence rooted from the influence of cowboys early in his life. At a young age, he loved to wear his chaps and boots while riding his horse. As Mike grew in his faith, Jesus added to his cowboy presence. Soon, whenever he walked into a room, people felt comforted and at ease in the midst of his company.
As he grew up, Mike knew that he always wanted to be a dedicated Christian, husband, father, entrepreneur, businessman, and US Open golf champion. He got five out of six.
Mike met the love of his life, Jeanette (who he often called Cinderella), while he was studying at Texas Tech University. He received his Bachelor’s degree in finance from TTU. Mike and Jeanette made the best team in faith, family, and business. They had two kids, Brandon (married to Lauren) and Whitney (married to Nick), and now have four grandchildren, Landry, Grayson, Wesley, and Lee. He loved to captivate them, as well as his friends, with his exceptional and hysterical storytelling abilities. They moved to the Dallas-Fort Worth area from their longtime home in Lubbock, Texas in 1998.
Mike was a gifted businessman and entrepreneur. After starting a fireworks business at the age of 13, he bought Computer Systems Distributors INC in 1984. Mike then started a new company in Dallas, Printer Connection INC, in 2001 that has thrived in the metroplex. In his work, Mike, with his servant’s heart, loved leading people, being generous, and encouraging others to do the same.
Outside of work, Mike loved to travel with friends and family. Oftentimes, the travel landed him in places that included some of the finest golf in the world. From Hawaii to Pebble Beach to Ireland and Scotland (where he got one of his seven hole in ones on the 5th hole at Prestwick Golf Club), he loved to experience new cultures while playing the game that he loved. He spoke the purest of golf idioms in all of these places and was the only human ever to cry while watching the movie, Tin Cup.
Mike’s tenderhearted and humble faith impacted innumerable people over his years. He and Jeanette gave nineteen years as avid supporters of the youth in their church while in Lubbock and never hesitated to share with anyone about Jesus and how deeply Jesus had impacted their life. Mike was famous for ending conversations with strangers with the line, “See you at church on Sunday!”
Mike will be honored and celebrated during a viewing at Lucas Funeral Home in Hurst, Texas on Friday, March 10 from 6-8pm. The funeral will be at 10:30am on Saturday, March 11 at Lucas Funeral Home in Hurst. A graveside service will follow at Bluebonnet Hills in Colleyville.
