December 4, 1972—September 1, 2023
Michelle Lee Horrell, 50, of Weatherford, TX, passed away into the arms of Jesus on Friday, September 1, 2023, in Ft. Worth, TX. A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, September 6, in the sanctuary of East Dallas Christian Church, 629 N. Peak St. Dallas, TX 75246. The family will receive friends with a visitation in the parlor of the church before the service at 10:00 AM. Services are under the direction of Lucas Funeral Home, Hurst, Texas.
Michelle was born on December 4, 1972, to Gerald and Linda Porter and big sister, Janet in Dallas, Texas. She attended school in Garland, TX and grew up at Lake Highlands Church of Christ where she learned about the love and grace of Jesus. Michelle’s life was marked by selfless giving and nurturing others. She spent a summer in 1995 serving impoverished neighborhoods in East St. Louis, building friendships with neighbors, and ministering to those in need. She spent her life always looking to make the lives of others better.
She began her professional career as a reporter and then copy editor. However, her nurturing nature was not fulfilled in these careers and led her to teaching. Her occupation as a special education teacher was a passion of hers. Michelle poured her heart and soul into helping children be seen, loved, and successful. Her most recent accomplishment was becoming a certified dyslexia therapist, and she had just begun her new path in this role at her school, Trinity Basin Preparatory in Ft. Worth.
Michelle’s love of life and laughter led to many joyful times with family and friends. She loved planning adventures to concerts, musicals, State Fair outings, lunch, and dinner dates. Her laughter over a simple breakfast or card game brought joy to our times together. Whether on momentous occasions or ordinary afternoons, Michelle cherished time together with her loved ones. She made the most of her time with us, which we treasure deeply. Her witty and vibrant sense of humor made time with her lively and warm. Our favorite times with Michelle were filled with laughter and stories wherever we were. We remember her infectious laugh and joy.
Michelle married the love of her life, Dan Horrell, on June 27, 2015. Their time together daily, whether on a trip, a simple Saturday morning breakfast at Sunny Street Cafe with their beloved dog, Piper, or in the kitchen cooking, was the joy of her life. She adored Dan immensely as he adored her. There was not a day that went by where they didn’t have at least one good laugh. They supported each other, strengthening one another and meeting each other’s needs, which made their relationship fulfilling.
Michelle is preceded in death by her grandparents, Robin and Ellen Teagarden, and Aubrey and Elvira Porter, and her cousin and best friend, Rebecca Diane Morlidge, and her father-in-law, Daniel Horrell, Sr. She is survived by her husband, Dan Horrell, parents, Gerald and Linda Porter of Bedford, TX, sister, Janet Smith and husband, Scott of Midland, TX, her nephew, Brock Smith of Euless, and niece, Addison Weed and husband, JC of Farmers Branch, TX, mother and father-in-law, Phyllis and Dean Hance, brother-in-law, Darren Horrell and wife, Nichole, and niece, Evy Horrell, nephew, Ethan Yarborough, her precious dog, Piper, and numerous cousins, aunts, and uncles, and friends.
