Mildred Berryman Cody Morris

February 13, 1922 — August 31, 2017

Mildred Berryman Cody Morris, 95, passed away Thurs., Aug. 31, 2017, after a long battle with dementia.

Visitation: 1:00 p.m. Wed., Sept. 6, 2017, at Legacy Church of Christ, 8801 Mid-Cities Blvd., North Richland Hills, TX. Funeral service will follow immediately at 2:00 p.m. at same location. Burial will be Thurs., Sept. 7, 2017, in Ballinger, TX, Garden of Memories Cemetery.

Mildred, known to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren as E.O., was born Feb. 13, 1922 in Yellowpine, TX, to A.A. and Effie Berryman. She grew up in her beloved Piney Woods, graduated from Draughon’s Business College in Beaumont, TX, and worked at several government jobs during World War II. In 1945, she was transferred to Ballinger, TX, where she met and married John W. Cody in1946. John Cody died in 1958. The next year, in 1959, she married Luther Morris and moved to San Angelo, TX. where she lived until 1985, when they moved to Jasper, TX, to care for her widowed mother. Luther Morris died in 1991. In 1999, Mildred moved to Abilene, TX, and lived there for 10 years before moving to Hurst, TX, to live with her daughter. During the last five years of her life, she lived in The Good Place Assisted Living in North Richland Hills, TX, and Parkwood Healthcare Community in Bedford, TX.

Mildred was mother of five, grandmother of seven and great-grandmother of fourteen. She was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ, a Bible class teacher, a PTA officer, a Girl Scout leader, a Boy Scout Den Mother, a Weight Watchers instructor, a die-hard Cowboys fan, a loyal Rangers fan, an Abilene Christian University booster, a champion 42-player, an accomplished seamstress, and an avid DIY-crafter. She loved Dr. Phil, Dr. Pepper, Wrigley's Doublemint chewing gum, Willie Nelson and Blue Bell ice cream (any flavor was her favorite). She was born in East Texas and loved the trees and flowers. She moved to West Texas after "the war" and loved the sunsets and the friendly people. She moved back to East Texas and then back to West Texas, before finishing her earthly journey here in North Texas. We will miss her so much. But we know she is in a far better place - where there are no tears, no pains and no dementia.

Mildred is survived by her children: one daughter: Cordelia and husband Joe Mason of Hurst; four sons: John Bob Cody and wife Tahna of Nacogdoches, Andy Cody and wife Jill of Dallas, Jody Morris of Abilene, and Marty Morris and wife Shannon of Dallas; seven grandchildren and their six spouses; and 14 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by one of her three siblings: Dr. Wayne Berryman and wife Bitsy of Tyler; several cousins; three sisters-in-law, Mrs. Nina Power of Stanfield, NC, Mrs. Doris Cody of Rockwall, TX, and Mrs. Avonne Cody of Reno, NV; as well as numerous nieces and nephews from the Berryman, Cody and Morris families.

Memorials: In lieu of flowers, you may wish to donate to your favorite charity or to the A.A. and Effie Berryman Endowed Scholarship fund at Abilene Christian University.
