Minnie Jo Secrest, 94, of Keller Texas, formerly of Irving, Texas, entered her heavenly home on January 19, 2023. She was born May 4,1928 in Pilot Point, Texas to Alpha and Ruthye Yarbrough. She married Lewis Truman Secrest, February 14th, 1951. She and Truman were married 59 years and were blessed with 5 children. Jo was one of 11 children born in the Yarbrough family. She was the last remaining Yarbrough sibling.
Jo grew up in church. She accepted Jesus as her Savior and was baptized as a young teen. She has always attended church, singing specials, singing in choirs, playing the piano or organ and serving as church hostess and the last several years serving as a greeter at her church, The Mount in Keller. She loved her church families, her pastors and never met a stranger.
Music was a big part of Jo’s life, passed down from her mother. Every member of the family sang and played their own instruments by ear. During her childhood she and her siblings even had a live radio program every Sunday afternoon. Every family reunion was a musical jamboree and what joyful times were had. Jo especially loved to play hymns on her piano which she did daily as she worshipped the Lord, and everyone was blessed to hear her play.
Preceded in death were her loving parents, siblings, devoted husband Truman and son Lewis Earl “Les”. She is now joyfully reunited with them.
She is survived by her children, Shirley Stokes of Coppell, Texas, Linda Starnes and husband Roy of Grand Saline, Texas, Beverly Walker and husband Sam of Lumberton, Texas and Eddy Secrest and wife Sonja of Flint, Texas. 11 precious grandchildren who loved her very much, Leslie Whetstine, Jason Stokes and wife Tiffany, Shelby Cannon and husband Dusty, Jeremy Starnes and wife Ashley, Amy Simmons and husband Michael, Kaley Parks and husband Nathan, Staci Weir, Nathan Walker and wife Melanie, Laura Trevino and husband Josh, Alicia Lowery and husband Preston, AJ Secrest and wife Hannah. 30 great grandchildren with one more on the way. She has a host of many relatives, nieces and nephews and lifelong friends.
Special thanks to The Mount Church family for their loving care, prayers and support to Ms. Jo, and to the Heart to Heart Hospice staff for their compassionate care.
