Mittie Eldora Jernigan, 83, went home to be with her Lord January 29, 2022. Visitation will be held from 3:00pm until 5:00pm, Sunday, February 13 at Lucas & Blessing Funeral Home, 518 SW Johnsnon Ave, in Burleson. A family graveside service will be held at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery.
Mittie was born November 5, 1938 in Excel, Alabama to Wilburn and Clara (Godwin) Wasden. She grew up in Excel and graduated from Excel High School in 1957. After high school, she began a career as a beautician and worked in numerous locations around the country as the USAF re-stationed her family, finally settling in Texas.
She married Audel Jernigan in 1957 in Excel, Alabama, and they were happily married for 57 years. Mittie was a Proverbs 31 wife. She was a member of Travis Avenue Baptist Church where she served many years in children’s ministry. An outstanding southern cook, she enjoyed sharing meals with family and special guests.
Mittie is survived by children, Dale Jernigan and wife, Lucretia, Felicia Browning and husband, Daniel, Boyd Jernigan and wife, Kathy, and Teresa Morrison; sister, Debra Tucker and husband, Jimmy; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
