Monica Mary Boot, 80, passed peacefully on April 25, 2023, in Bedford, Texas after a hard-fought battle with cancer. Monica was born on May 24, 1942, in New York to loving parents Thomas and Anne Hannon. Monica was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother and will be greatly missed by family and friends. She is survived by her four children, Monica, Jay, Jeanine, and Harry her grandchildren, Taylor, Mark, Brandon, Corey, Olivia, Loren, Jacob and Sarah, and great grandchildren Cooper and Phoebe.
Monica grew up in New York and that is where she met the love of her life, Jack John Boot. They met at a New Year’s Eve party and married on November 24 of the same year. Shortly after, they started their family, having four loving children. As a testament to their love for each other, they celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary before Jack passed away in 2018.
Monica and Jack moved from New York to Bedford, Texas in 1982, along with Jeanine and Harry. They bought a home in Bedford and that is where they both lived for the rest of their lives. Within a few years of moving to Texas, their other two children also moved to Bedford reuniting the family. Monica and Jack filled their home with love and laughter. Neither of them ever met a stranger and their home was a place where all were welcome for the holidays. You never knew who the surprise guest from year to year might be. Besides hosting Thanksgiving and Christmas Eve, it was also the meeting place for routine family breakfasts.
Monica also had a passion for traveling, especially if it was to a city that had a casino. Initially, they spent much time in Vegas before finding a hotel in Biloxi that would become their home away from home. Even after Jack’s passing, Monica continued her quarterly trips to Biloxi until the very end. They traveled with a great group of people that became an extended family to them over the years.
Monica was a person with strong convictions and was always willing to speak up for the “under-dog”. She was a strong believer in equality for all and had no problem letting people know her views on tough topics. She was very secure with who she was and lived her life on her terms. Monica was a strong and resilient person but was also extremely loving. She loved unconditionally and always was there to listen. She lived a full life and had no regrets. She was a strong and passionate person and she definitely lived life her way. Her presence will be missed.
