Nancy "Vegas Nan" Jane Ault Brainard
"The Pink Shoes Lady who loved to laugh"
Died peacefully at her home in Keller, TX surrounded by loved ones and the caring staff of Grace Hospice on January 31, 2017.

The unique ability to see someone through a dark time and make them laugh through it is a gift given by God to very few. Nancy had that gift and did not hold back using it.

A celebration of Nancy's life and laughter will be held at Brunswick Zone Bowling Alley's lounge, 7301 Rufe Snow Dr. Watauga, Texas on Saturday, February 25 from 1-3 PM.

In lieu of flowers, contributions to this event in Nancy’s honor would be gratefully accepted.

Nancy/Nan was born in 1937 in Bellwood, IL to George Lincoln Ault II and Florence Elizabeth Christensen Ault. Nancy was the youngest of three. She witnessed more change, horrific events and hopeful moments in this nations history than most of us could ever imagine. She hated bigotry, injustice and vegetables. She loved equal rights, bowling, her pets, bingo, chocolate (hot fudge being her favorite), and, most of all, her family and friends. She lived and worked most of her life in Las Vegas, NV as a bookkeeper and comptroller within the gaming industry. Nancy was the sole caregiver for her mother, father and cousin during their individual fights with cancer for a cumulative total of 30 years. She managed challenging situations with grace and humor, using laughter to ease her loved ones pain and bringing hope where there was none.

She will be known as "the Pink Shoes Lady who made me laugh" in every place she frequented. She loved to tell the story about meeting a man at a Keller Great Clips. She complimented the shoes the man sitting next to her was wearing. He insisted they trade. The fit was way off! She returned his new tennies and took back her ratty slippers. Before leaving the salon, the gentleman approached her, gave her $40, told her where he purchased the shoes and asked her to go get a pair for herself. It took some convincing, but she finally agreed to accept the gift and go get the shoes. Unfortunately, the style he was wearing was out of stock, but she found the perfect pink ones, and they were on sale! She adored telling this story (among other humorous empowering stories) to everyone who would listen. She knew it gave people hope, joy and laughter in a scary world. She knew laughter dissipated anxiety, eased pain and made the day happier.

One of the things Nancy adored most in this world were her two grandchildren, Cynthia and Paul Cutler. Her youngest grandchild Paul, was diagnosed with autism at age two. Nancy helped her daughter change the diagnosis from one of sadness to joy and taught her the healing powers of laughter. Paul is now 18, taking AP classes and graduating from Keller High School in 2017. He achieved the highest award a Boy Scout can earn, the Eagle Scout award. She was equally proud of her granddaughter Cynthia's accomplishments in Girl Scouts (Bronze and Silver awards earned,) choir, community service and drama. Nancy was thrilled to see her granddaughter start her college journey at TCC.

Nancy was preceded to heaven by her mother and father, her brother George Lincoln Ault III, brother-in-law William Ardell Stelck, her cousin and friend Mary Ann/Chris Christiansen Habish (Walter Habish), Robin Williams and many friends she chatted with online.

She is survived by her daughter Theresa/Rese Ann Brainard Cutler, her son-in-law David Paul Cutler (who taught us laughing actually increases O2 #'s), granddaughter Cynthia Rose Cutler, grandson Paul Ault Cutler, sister Elizabeth/Betsy Ann Ault Stelck, nieces; Karen Beth Stelck, Lisa Ann Stelck (William Boeger), Kristin/Kiki Lynn Stelck, great nieces; Katya and Karina, great nephews; Reed and Cody, and all the incredible Doctors (Dr. Shillo being her favorite to make her laugh and Reed her favorite to torment), Nurses, Personal caregivers, Aids, Therapists and friends willing to step up and help! Maxine, Pamela, Wolf, Todd and Susan, each of you gave her a lift (physically if necessary) whenever she saw you.
