Nancy Allynn Carevic Hampton, 80, passed away Tuesday, November 15, 2022. Nancy was born September 8, 1942, in Sewickley, Pennsylvania, the daughter of Anthony Louis Carevic and Amelia Helen Skrlac Carevic. She recalls a very happy, carefree childhood. She graduated from Ambridge High School in Ambridge PA, where as a musician she reached State first chair in choir and on the clarinet. Her family moved to Dallas in 1960 for work opportunities. Nancy graduated from Southern Methodist University in 1964 where she was a member of Gamma Phi Beta Sorority and the honorary Phi Lambda Theta Honor society. She married Dan E. Hampton, a dental student at Baylor Dental School, at Highland Park United Methodist Church in Dallas on June 21, 1963. Nancy and Dan enjoyed fifty years of marriage together, raising their four sons on the 6-H Ranch in Sherman, TX. They enjoyed traveling together, and spending time with family and friends.
Nancy began her career as an elementary school teacher in Seattle, WA while Dan served a tour in Vietnam as a Dentist. Once she and Dan established their home in Sherman, Nancy taught elementary education at S&S Elementary School and also served as a member on the school board. As an educator for more than 30 years, she loved encouraging her students and nurturing their creativity. Nancy obtained her Masters degree in Education and was certified to teach in the Language Disabilities and the Gifted and Talented programs. She loved working with the elementary ages.
While in Sherman, Nancy was a member of the Sherman Service League, the Altrusa Club and the International Women’s Club. She also enjoyed her time with the Sherman Art League, SMA Singers and the Red River Dancers. She was also a member of the First Baptist Church of Sherman and its Joy Sunday School class.
In her retirement, Nancy remained very active. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and the Denison and Trophy Club chapters of the Philanthropic Educational Organization (PEO). Nancy attended White’s Chapel United Methodist Church where she joined the Faith Builders Sunday School Class and participated in several of the class’s bridge and canasta groups. The Faith Builders family became some of her very dear friends that together shared her love of our Lord. Nancy loved to paint and created a painting studio in her North Richland Hills home, where she moved to in 2014. She spent hours in this studio teaching painting techniques to her grandchildren and hosting weekly painting sessions with friends.
More than anything, Nancy was a loving and devoted mother to her four sons and their families. She cherished being “Meme” to her grandchildren. Nancy never missed a birthday, anniversary or graduation. She loved attending her grandchildren’s games, school plays or concerts, and she always let them know how fabulously they had performed. Combining Nancy’s love for family and travel, she took the entire family on yearly vacations that the family will never forget. Meme adored hosting family holidays and special occasions. She took great pride in setting a beautiful dinner table and planning activities for her grandchildren. Nancy took pictures, LOTS of pictures, and lovingly compiled individual albums of Hampton memories for each family member.
Nancy was preceded in death by her husband, Dan Hampton in 2013. Nancy is survived by her four sons and their wives: Tony and Catherine of Colleyville and their children Grace, Carson and Emma; Ben and Katie of Overland Park, Kansas and their children Pierce and Jillian; Tim and Abby of Keller and their children Claire and Tessa; and Matt and Maria of Charlotte, NC and their children Kensey, Mason, Noah, Alex and Grant. Other surviving relatives include Nancy’s dear nieces Kelly Hampton Pearson of Liberty, TX and Cindy Hampton Vansicle of Denison, TX. And of course, Nancy’s beloved dog Frisky who has been by her side for 14 years.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to American Heart Association, the National Humane Society or your local SPCA. Graveside services will be held at Friendship Cemetery in Sherman, Texas on Wednesday, November 23 at 10:00 AM and arranged by Waldo Funeral Home of Sherman, Texas.
