It is with great sadness that the family of Nancy Gay Lytal announces her passing on October 13, 2022. Gay was born on October 13, 1937 in Marlin, Texas and is the daughter of the late Herman and Celeste Musick. She will be lovingly remembered by her children James (Mary Beth) and Lori (Michael). Gay, affectionately known as "Mimi", will be greatly missed by her five grandchildren, Wade (Malorie), Aaron (Anna), Mason (Sarah), Ryan and Sarah, and three great-grandchildren Kellyanne, Emmalynn and Nora, along with many long-time and new friends.
Gay grew up in Fort Worth and had dreams of being an FBI agent. Fortunately, her career path changed to Education. She received her Bachelor's and Master's degrees from East Texas State University while perfecting skills as a mother of two. She began her career in education in 1958 as a sixth-grade teacher in Archer City where she taught one year. After a six-year absence, she began teaching third grade in Stephenville where she taught for five years and moved to Sherman where she taught Kindergarten for one year. Her career in Irving, Texas began in 1971as a fifth-grade teacher at Farine Elementary. In 1985, she became an instructional facilitator and was named Assistant Principal at W.T. Hanes Elementary in Irving in 1989. She became Principal at Hanes shortly thereafter and remained at Hanes until her retirement. She had an amazing 31-year career in education with 24 of those years being in Irving.
People feel fortunate to have known, worked and been friends with Gay. She has been
described as one of those rare gems of a person who enriches other's lives and very often changes its course for the better. She was a people person.....warm, charming and could make you feel wonderful while she's telling you "what for." She was a wonderful mentor and some of the lessons that others have learned from her were often those about "life skills" and the importance of taking care of yourself and maintaining a balance in life. Her concern for others has always been sincere and bountiful. She allowed people the autonomy of being their own person and keeping one's dignity. She was known as the encourager, giving support to friends
and colleagues.
Gay enjoyed traveling, especially taking cruises with friends to the Mediterranean, Caribbean, Alaska and Mexico. She loved attending her grandchildren and great-grandchildren's special events. She was a member of Compass Church in Colleyville. She will be missed by all who knew her, but especially by her family who loved her dearly. The family has requested that any donations be made in Gay's memory to the Dallas Area Parkinson's Society (DAPS) located at 6210 LBJ Freeway, St 213, Dallas TX 75240. Donations may be made by mail or through the weblink

. Although Gay did not have Parkinson's, she has been very supportive of this organization due to a family member with this condition.
