Nancy Bohannon Pennell

May 10, 1949 — December 15, 2019

Nancy Sharon Bohannon Pennell, of Keller, Texas, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 15, 2019 in Grapevine, Texas after a lifelong battle with Polycystic Kidney Disease. She will always be remembered as a faithful wife, loving mother, proud Nana to 2 grandchildren, and a sister. Nancy accepted her Savior Jesus as a child and lived her life according to Joshua 1:9…”Be strong and courageous”…as she fought her battle against her illness. She was born on May 10, 1949 in Childress, Texas to Bobbie and Jack Bohannon. She graduated from Childress High School in 1967 and went on to marry the love of her life Harry Pennell in February 1969. Even though she suffered from kidney disease the majority of her life, she continued to live her life to the fullest. While waiting for a kidney transplant for 8 years, she continued playing golf with her friends and family while working as a Medical Business Manager. In January 1997 she received the gift of life through a kidney transplant and was forever grateful. Even though the average kidney transplant lasts about 7 years, she would have celebrated her 23rd year kidney anniversary next month. She was an advocate for Polycystic kidney disease and organ donation, she competed as a golfer in the US Transplant Olympics where she received 3 gold medals. Nancy’s southern hospitality roots followed her all over the country and she enjoyed entertaining and hosting with her delicious cooking.

Nancy is survived by her loving husband of 50 years, Harry (Mike) Pennell, her daughters Melissa (Mark) Marsden of Keller, Michelle (Jason) Besterfeldt of Colleyville and her beloved grandchildren Michael and Madeline Gower, sister Nelwyn Ward of Memphis, TX, brother Royce Bohannon of Lake Fork, TX, sister Rhonda (Sean) Saied of Amarillo, TX, nephews and nieces, Gary (Deanna) Ward of Lubbock, TX, Mark (Leigh Ann) Ward of Canyon, TX, Carol Ann Gibbs of The Colony, TX, Jon (Gala) Bohannon of Canyon Lake, TX, Billy Jack Bohannon of Canyon Lake, TX, Jason (Stephanie) Bohannon of Plano, TX, Jennifer Amox of Bryant, AR, Krystal Bohannon of Burleson, TX, and other numerous nieces and nephews. Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, Jack and Bobbie Bohannon; her brother, Billy Jack Bohannon; and brother-in-law, Bobby Ward of Memphis, TX.
