Neil Walker (Nick) Lilley passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 27th, 2023 in Keller, Texas.
Neil was born on March 2nd, 1937 in Kansas City, Missouri. His parents were Neil Graham Lilley and Marion Walker Lilley.
Growing up in Kansas City, Neil attended Border Star primary school and Southwest High School. He was active in scouting, and he earned the rank of Eagle Scout. As a boy, he and his parents enjoyed many vacations to Gull Lake, Minnesota, and he also attended Camp Lincoln in Minnesota.
After high school, he attended the University of Kansas where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology. He was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity.
While at college, Neil met Penny O’Daniel. They wed in 1961 and were lovingly and devotedly married for nearly 60 years.
Neil worked for many years as an executive for the Kansas City Structural Steel Company, serving as Vice President of Sales. Later, he worked as a commercial real estate broker for the Minkin Real Estate Company in Kansas City.
Neil, Penny, and their sons spent many happy summer days of sailing and boating at Lake Lotawana, Missouri where they had a cabin that had been built by Neil’s parents. Neil & Penny liked traveling, and they took many trips to national parks, historical landmarks, and a few European cities. Other favorite destinations were Breckenridge, Colorado, and Green Valley, Arizona.
Neil was an avid golfer, and he was a member of Mission Hills Country Club in Mission Hills, Kansas
where he enjoyed many friendships. He was also a fan of the Kansas Jayhawks and the Kansas City Chiefs.
Neil was a longtime member of Saint Andrew's Episcopal Church in Kansas City, Missouri. Later, he attended St. Martin-in-the-Fields Episcopal Church in Keller, Texas.
Most of all, Neil was a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He is remembered by
many for his quick wit, engaging stories, and sage advice.
He is survived by son Neil B. Lilley and granddaughter Katharine Lilley of Huntington, New York, and by son Jeff Lilley, daughter-in-law Michelle Lilley, and grandson Walker Lilley of Keller, Texas.
He is preceded in death by his beloved wife Penny Lilley.
