Neil was born in Providence, KY, and lived most of his life in Louisville. He served in the United States Army between the Korean and Vietnam wars, and was stationed in Germany for two years. He retired from the United States Postal Service after thirty years of dedicated work. Neil loved Southern Gospel music and was a singer and songwriter, writing nearly 700 songs, and singing with numerous quartets during his lifetime. He also loved UK basketball, fishing, and traveling to places like California, Hawaii, Florida, and Alaska. But, more than anything else, Neil loved spending time with family.
Neil leaves a strong legacy of faith in Jesus Christ and love for his family. Family members welcoming Neil into Heaven include his parents, Monroe and Blanche Travis, sister Patricia Travis Kemp (husband, Harold), and brother Charlie Travis (wife, June). Those remaining to celebrate his life include his greatly adored and loving wife of sixty years, Jennie, daughters Susan Travis Eicher (husband, Mike), Laurie Travis Rodriguez, and Belinda Travis Belew (husband, Mike); grandchildren Billy Baker (wife, Jodi), Jennifer Bauman (husband, Josh), David Eicher (wife, Jessica), Kiersten Eicher, Shelby Morrison (husband, Coltan), Jessica Rodriguez, Travis Belew, Evan Belew, and Garrett Belew; great-grandchildren Payton Baker, Ellie Baker, Cole Baker, Knox Baker, June Bauman, Jennie Bauman, Jasper Bauman, Paislee Eicher, Paxton Eicher, and Aven Morrison; sister, Donna Travis McLemore (husband, Jim); nieces and nephews, Steve Kemp, Sharon Kemp Main, Dennis Travis, Phil Travis, Jamia McLemore Wilson, and Greg McLemore, and their families.
