In the warm embrace of his loving family, Nicholas George Givas, aged 68, passed away on February 16th, 2024. Born on April 27th, 1955 in Dearborn, Michigan, Nick's zest for life and infectious spirit were evident from the start.
Nick's youth was marked by a passion for sports, a love that would follow him throughout his life. Whether it was football, lacrosse, basketball, or baseball, he played with vigor and joy throughout his childhood and college years. His athletic prowess and Adonis-like charm made him a standout member of the Greek Orthodox Youth Association, where he led his team to victory and captured the hearts of many.
His Greek heritage was a source of immense pride for Nick. Known affectionately as "The Greek" among friends, he celebrated his culture through art, the fluttering Greek flag on his school supplies, and a deep appreciation for his Yiayia's culinary masterpieces.
Nick's academic journey took him from Michigan State University to Wayne State University, where he graduated with a degree in Urban Planning in 1978. Nick's professional path was as diverse as it was impactful. From his early days working in his father's bar and as a golf caddy, to his later years in Texas, where he contributed to community development and honed his skills in Auto CAD Drafting, Nick's work ethic and dedication were unwavering.
But work wasn’t the only thing Nick excelled at — he was a family man at heart. The love story of Nick and Celia began at a Superbowl party in 1991, a meeting that quickly blossomed into a lifelong partnership. Married on September 1st, 1991, their bond was one of deep affection, shared dreams, and mutual respect.
A few years later, Nick was promoted to “Popo.” As a father, Nick's heart knew no bounds. His daughter Cassie's fondest memories are of the simple, yet profound moments they shared—from learning about cars to sharing inside jokes from their favorite movies. His presence at her volleyball games, as the loudest and proudest supporter, is a testament to his unwavering love and encouragement.
Nick's personality was a tapestry of traits that made him uniquely "Nick." His love for football, his knack for Jeopardy, his perfectionism in everything he did, and his dry, yet funny sense of humor were just a few threads of his vibrant character. A self-taught handyman, he transformed spaces with his own hands, creating a legacy of craftsmanship and a home filled with love and laughter.
He is survived by his wife, Celia Givas; daughter, Cassandra Pierce; son-in-law, Kyle Pierce; daughter, Misty Warrington; son-in-law, Richard Warrington; brother, Tony Givas; sister-in-law, Wendy Givas; nephew, Nicholas Givas; niece, Alyssa Givas; sister, Zoe Miller; brother-in-law, Christopher Miller; nephew, Christopher Mark; niece-in-law, Taylor Mark; nephews, Troy Miller, Noah Miller, and Joshua Miller; and many cousins.
