Nicholas Wheeler Schouten passed away June 6, 2019. He is survived by his wife, Jackie Schouten, daughter, Nicki Tidwell, son, Stephen Schouten, sister, Donna “Taylor, 3 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren. Nick was born January 10, 1923 in Neosha, Missouri to Roland Schouten and Leona Hawk. He was preceded in death by his parents and first wife Louise.
Nick was a member of the Hurst First Methodist Church, the Christian Homebuilders Sunday School Class and an honorary member of the Mid-Cities Pacesetters Rotary Club.
Nick served his country during World War II in the Army and in the Navy during the Korean War. He worked in the newspaper business both in Fort Worth and Dallas. Upon retirement from the Dallas News he opened Summit Travel, Inc. Nick enjoyed reading, traveling (especially cruising), dining out, ballroom dancing, origami (taught classes at TCC), photography, and was an active bridge player who also taught bridge classes at TCC.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests any donations sent to the First Methodist Church of Hurst Music department, or a charity of your choosing.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 P.M., Monday, June 17, 2019 at First United Methodist Church located at 521 W. Pipeline Road, Hurst, Texas 76053. Nick will be laid to rest at Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery earlier in the day at 10:15 AM.
