Norman Larry Scott Jr.

July 3, 1939 — September 21, 2020

Norman Larry Scott Jr. went home to be with our Lord and Savior on September 21, 2020 in Euless, Texas. Larry was born to Norman Larry Scott Sr. and Dorothy Scott on July 3, 1939 in Kansas City, Missouri.

Survivors include his loving spouse of 33 years Gerrie Scott. Brother Brent Scott and wife Tina. Daughter Liz Richey and her husband David. Stepson Brad Walden and wife Kim. Stepdaughter Kim Harris and husband Josh. Grandchildren Amber Ireland, Jolie, Charlie and Max Harris. Wyatt and Garrett Walden. Mack Kelsey Jr, Sasha Forestor, Tiffany Harris and Sarah Kelsey. Great grandchildren Avery Anderson, Ryan Johnson, Damian, Kaleb, Bryson and Aaliyah Harris, Kelsey and Luke Forestor, and Lily Kelsey. Numerous nieces and nephews. And his fur baby Bentley.

Larry met Gerrie at first Baptist Church in Euless. After making eyes at each other from across the room, Gerrie “picked him up” at the water fountains! They were married three years later by the minister of the singles group. They had a 33-year marriage that was overflowing with love, respect, and adoration. He was Gerrie’s best friend and he always made her laugh. Larry and Gerrie lived in North Richland Hills for many years. Larry retired from Roadway Express after a 37-year career where he held multiple positions, including Office Manager. They spent many years in Pagosa Springs Colorado, where they enjoyed the beautiful scenery before moving to Amarillo Texas to be closer to family that resided in Texas and Oklahoma. A big influence in them moving to Amarillo was to be near dear friends Mike and Ann Powell that he had known for over 50 years.

Eventually he and Gerrie moved back to the Ft. Worth area. Larry always treated his step children Brad and Kim as one of his own. He had a big influence on them with his work ethic and they both highly admired him for the way that he cared for their mother. Larry’s son in law Mack Kelsey has mentioned many times how if it were not for Larry, he would not have had the career that he has today.

Larry had a great love for schnauzers. He and Gerrie had many fur babies over the years. He also had a love for motorcycles. He raced dirt bikes when he was younger, and he continued his passion for motorcycles over the years graduating to bigger street gliders. One of the memories shared by several of his grandkids is him taking them for motorcycle rides and going real fast! He made many a mile ride motorcycles with his great friends Gene Long and Ken and Martha Crawford. He met Gene Long while working at Roadway and they enjoyed a 52-year friendship. He met Ken through Gene while riding motorcycles and they enjoyed a 31-year friendship. Larry and Ken also enjoyed playing racquetball together.

He also had a great love of photography for many years. He was a member of the Ft. Worth camera club along with Ken for many years, where he won numerous awards for his amazing photography. He was also a member of the Pagosa Springs camera club when he and Gerrie lived there and he won many awards. One of the many great pictures he had taken was of a clown. He had it made into a poster size wall hanging that hung in his home office at one time. His granddaughter Jolie did not like that picture when she was younger. It creeped her out. When they moved to their most recent home, they did not have a good place to hang it, so it was hung in the pantry. The now older Jolie got a kick out of that.

Larry also loved country music and he also loved to dance. He, Gerrie, Ken and Martha would go country dancing together. Larry had a lot of country music downloaded to his iPhone and would spend hours listening to it in his later years.

Larry loved playing words with friends on his phone for many years. His daughters Liz and Valerie were two of his biggest competitors! It was clear that he had a love for spelling which he inherited from his sweet mother Dorothy. She loved to play scrabble and won many spelling bees. Something else he inherited from his mother was his sweetness. They were alike in so many ways.

Larry is preceded in death by his father Norman Larry Scott Sr, his mother Dorothy and her husband Mickey Burns, sister Barbara Ann Scott and his daughter Valerie Kelsey.
