Okie F. Setiawan, 59, passed away on Monday, April 24, 2023 in Dallas, Texas. He was born on October 11, 1963 in Tasikmalaya, Indonesia, to parents, Wong Giok Lan and Tjong Kit Tjay.
Okie is originally from Tasikmalaya, Indonesia and completed his undergraduate in Civil Engineering at Maranatha Christian University in Bandung in 1988. His professional career journey as a structural engineer began in PT Wiratman, an engineering consultant company in Jakarta. That is where he met his soon-to-be wife Ester, whom he eventually married in 1993. They then moved to Dallas to study Practical Theology at Christ for the Nations Institute. He completed his master's degree in Civil Engineering at the University of Texas at Arlington in 1995. His professional career spanned over 27 years working for various companies in the DFW area. He was involved in designing various projects, such as the Winspear Opera House in Dallas, TX, the Presbyterian Hospital of Dallas, and Harris Methodist Heart Hospital, Ft. Worth. He also had the opportunity to design the Hurst City Hall.
Okie’s favorite quote is “Man’s highest goal is to know God and be known by Him forever.” He embodied this quote throughout his life. He devoted his life to serving God - he co-founded Soli-Deo Indonesian Church in 2004, and played an instrumental role in leading the congregation until he went home to our Father in heaven.
Okie was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife, Ester Tegasan Setiawan; sons, Joseph Adrian Setiawan Chong and Joel Avery Setiawan Chong; brothers, Tjong Kaw Tun, Tjong Kaw Yam; Tjong Kaw Tjok; Anton Chong and Michael Setiawan; and sisters, Tjong Tjiu Fa and Tjong Yu Fa.
SERVICES: A funeral service will be held on Monday, May 1, at 5:00 pm in the Lucas Funeral Home Chapel; 1321 Precinct Line Road, Hurst, Texas 76053. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., on Sunday, April 30, at the funeral home. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, May 2, at 10:00 a.m. at the Smithfield Cemetery, 7935 Main Street, North Richland Hills, Texas 76182.
