Our dad had a gypsy’s heart and moved around over the years calling Massachusetts, Texas, Connecticut, Vermont, Georgia and then back to Texas - home. He was always striving for something bigger and better. He finally realized that what was most important to him was family – so he settled in Justin, Texas to be near some of his family. Our dad loved hunting and fishing - he said the third best moments after his children and grandchildren being born in his life were when he was out in the woods hunting or fishing a stream full of trout. He loved his grandchildren beyond measure, playing yahtzee with them, watching a action movie, a cold beer, animals of all kinds, a crisp autumn morning at sunrise, good country music, apple pie and chocolate milkshakes. He loved this country and the all the freedoms we have as Americans, always making sure to thank a serviceperson for their service to our country. He had a deep respect for law enforcement officers and made a point to say hello and thank you to them in passing. Dad was a avid gunsman and was a proud member of the NRA, he was a lifelong New York Yankees fan, a Shriner, a member of the American Legion and the Wrens Lions Club he enjoyed volunteering with the men’s group of Wrens UMC when he lived in Georgia. He worked construction for 25 years, and drove a tracker trailer across the US for several years. After retiring dad entered his second career as a painter - he had a small business in Georgia for 13 years and painted many a home for friends and clients. Dad never wanted to settle, he always was looking for that next job or project to keep busy and active.
Our dad loved God but was not always a faithful disciple, after a serious illness in his 40’s he realized the importance of living a spiritual life, studying, learning and trying to live it. Lee was baptized August 2017 and become a member of Justin UMC here in Texas where he enjoyed making new friends and renewing his love for Jesus through his Sunday school studies. A special thank you to Fonda & Mark Peterson for helping continue his bible studies after he become too ill to attend church on Sundays. Thank you to all who visited called or sent cards of well wishes to our dad during the time of his illness and hospice care. Thanks to the special ladies who came out and had a laugh and a bloody Mary with dad – he talked about that often. And lastly, thanks to those of you who are praying for our family, who have sent cards, flowers and food and continue to support us during this difficult time.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to our dad’s doctors and the nursing staff at UTSW, especially Dr. Kevin Courtney and his staff. Our sincerest gratitude and love to dad’s hospice nurse, Gail Rockenburg for being so very generous with her loving manner, her time and her nursing skills while taking care of our father. Nurse JoAnne who came to care for dad near the end and hugged us and loved on dad, making sure he was comfortable. And lastly, thank you to Lucas Funeral Home for taking such good care of our dad, treating him with such respect and care.
