Pamela Ann Pittard

December 27, 1943 — July 14, 2016

Pamela Ann Pittard of Bedford passed away on July 14, 2016 at her home after enduring a 5 ½ year battle with Sarcoma Cancer. She was born December 27, 1943. She grew up in Goldthwaite, Texas where she enjoyed an upbringing surrounded with love from her family and friends. She gave her life to the Lord at age 11 at First Baptist Church Goldthwaite.

Pam was a very outgoing person, and her teenage years were filled with cheerleading, basketball, and church youth activities. She was a graduate of Baylor University where she majored in Elementary Education and spent a 30-year teaching career with the Birdville ISD. Most of those years were spent teaching first grade at Snow Heights Elementary. She was named Birdville Teacher of the Year and was a lifetime member of PTA, involved in teacher organizations and district committees.

After ending a teaching career, Pam spent many years working for a medical uniform company in the areas of marketing and purchasing. She worked from home for the company until her death. For many years she was involved in community activities, including the Colleyville Chamber of Commerce. She was involved in the Miss Texas Pageant for 13 years as a hostess, several years as a travel companion, and two years on the Board of Trustees. Last year she was honored by the Pageant as a Woman of Inspiration. This year, she and her husband were honored again by the Pageant’s 100 Club, a scholarship organization. She judged both Teen and Miss Pageants. She and her husband spent a number of years organizing and working with the Mid-Cities Baylor Club. They also worked together in home building for several years. She was a member of the Tarrant County Baylor University Women’s Council and Bear Hunters’ Club, encouraging high school students to attend Baylor. She was a member of First Baptist Church Euless and held positions in the area of outreach. She was an active member of the Theta Theta Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma and worked with the Circle of Friends’ organization, dedicated to projects benefitting cancer patients at Cooks Children’s Hospital.

During her cancer journey, she wrote a book, Eagle in a Storm, that is a book of encouragement for anyone facing a life threatening health challenge. She was fortunate to put the book in the hands of over 1,100 people.

The biggest joys in her life came from spending time with her husband, attending sporting events at Baylor University and enjoying country and gospel music. Her husband served as a dedicated caregiver to her during her 5 ½ year battle with cancer. She took great pride in the accomplishments of her two sons in the their home building and attorney practice and spending time and attending events with her four grandchildren. Her sisters were a tremendous source of pleasure and were by her side during her last years, months, days and hours.

She is survived by her two sons: Steve and wife, Belinda, of Frisco and Kirk and wife, Lisa, of Grapevine. She is also survived by her grandchildren Preston Knox and Presley Kate Pittard of Frisco, and Wyatt and Chloe Pittard of Grapevine; sisters Rebecca McKenzie of Kerrville, Neta Geeslin of Goldthwaite, and Betty Berry of San Angelo. She was preceded in death by her husband, Knox, her parents J.D. and Grenetta Berry, and her in-laws, Louis and Eugenia Pittard.
