Patricia Ann Mills Mccurtain "Mimi"

November 10, 1931 — January 26, 2023

Patricia was the heart of her family and was always giving love and guidance. She loved to laugh and would give her time generously to all those she met. Her strength and wisdom will be missed, but her spirit will live on in all those she loved and touched.

Patricia, affectionately known as Mimi, was born in Tulsa, OK to Nell Elizabeth Sanders Mills & Charles Harvey Mills.

Patricia married the love of her life, Greenwood David McCurtain, Choctaw, Poteau, Oklahoma, at the tender age of 17, while a junior in high school. It was a marriage that endured 50 years until Greenwood’s death in 1998. Patricia was the first Poly High School student allowed to graduate as a married woman. She graduated in 1949. When she discussed graduating with the principal, she said “This is the first time I have ever been in the principal office, and it is really pretty”. Mr. C.A. Thompson said, “that is why I am going to allow you to graduate, because you have never been in here”. Patricia loved her principal and took his words of wisdom to heart. Patricia shared his one quote with all of her children, “Remember who you are and where you’re from.
Patricia was proud of her heritage Osage/Cherokee/White; almost as proud of the family she and Greenwood raised.
She is survived by:

Numerous loved nieces and nephews.
As a teenager and young woman, Patricia was known for her beautiful voice and piano playing. She eventually was the church soloist for many years. Patricia was chosen by Kate Wyrock to further train her operatic voice as she was a gold medal winner. Patricia’s love of performing was inherited and passed on to her granddaughter and namesake, Patricia “Tishi”. She loved to follow Tishi in her competitive dance world traveling to many places with On Stage Dance Academy. This was truly a family affair you can ask Mikey as he did the traveling too. You could always spot Mimi because she had the brightest smile and loudest clap.
Mimi loved her daily talks with her daughter Patty and granddaughter Narcia in Indiana. It was the highlight of her day and something she looked forward to and cherished.
You could find Mimi most days with Narcia and Tishi better known as the three musketeers. Whether it was RV trips to Noah’s Ark or the annual Disney World trip they were always together. She sure did love that the Disney trip grew and included her grandson Mikey and her son in laws this year. She even had the plans of a big Noah’s Ark Trip this coming September with her daughter Patty and granddaughter Narcia from Indiana.
Mimi loved having all her children and grandchildren together for any occasion whether it was Christmas, Thanksgiving or a birthday, they were moments she truly cherished.
After graduation at All Saints School of Nursing, Patricia worked as a registered nurse for many years and eventually went to the business side of medicine. As Business Manager of John Petersmith Hospital, Patricia took great pride in establishing protocol for billing and ensured the hospital sought growth for the betterment of the employees which garnered her employee of the year.
Eventually, Patricia went to Snelling & Snelling employment agency where she worked nine years and was one of the top counselors every single month. Not long after, she opened V.P. Personnel, Inc. with locations in Ft. Worth, Las Colinas and Bedford. V.P. Personnel, Inc. was one of the largest employment agencies in the DFW area.
With the travel involved in her agency, Patricia and Greenwood were able to get heavily involved in the Pow Wow community in Dallas/Ft. Worth area as well as Oklahoma and other parts of Texas. All of the McCurtain’s loved the Pow Wow’s and they could be found dancing at least once or twice a month. Patricia and Greenwood ensured that their children and grandchildren knew the Indian ways and that their heritage was preserved.
In 1989, Patricia and Greenwood moved to Phoenix, AZ as the climate was better for Greenwood’s health. After his death, Patricia stayed until 2012 and eventually moved back to Fort Worth. While there, Patty honored Greenwood by continuing their yearly efforts to help feed those in need. She continued to live a life of service, always putting others first.
Patricia was preceded in death by her loving husband Greenwood David McCurtain, daughter Melody Ann McCurtain, son David Charles McCurtain, father Charles Harvey Mills, mother Nell Elizabeth Sanders Mills, father In law Greenwood Mitchell McCurtain & mother in law Julia McLish Ward McCurtain, Sister in law Elizabeth (Betty) Lorraine McCurtain Ellis, brother in law Julian Mitchell McCurtain.
Patricia “Patty” or “Mimi” went to be with Jesus on January 26, 2023, and we can rest assured that she is having a wonderful reunion in heaven.
She’ll be missed but she’s left us with a lifetime of good memories. R.I.P. beautiful.
