Patricia (Pat) JoAnne Mayes, 80, of Haltom City, Texas passed away on Friday, April 9, 2021, in her home of metastatic breast cancer.
Pat was born on October 2, 1940 in San Diego, California to Madeline Jane Shortridge & Orville Paul Gould. She was married to Bernard McGuire Johnson, Sr. in Maryland, 1957 to 1968, Waylon Klatt in Texas, 1969 to 1977, Barry Bryant in Texas, 1980 to 1987, and David Daniel Mayes, October 13, 1991 to present. She graduated from high school in Maryland and after graduating she was a factory worker in the 1960's, worked for Kenny's Florist in Leonardtown, Maryland in the early 1960's and she always took on sewing for others on the side. Being a Seamstress came natural to her and with the help from her mother who was a college educated Home Economics teacher who taught sewing. Pat had her own flower shop on James Avenue in Fort Worth, Texas in the 1970's and then went on to have a ceramic shop with her daughter Dottie in the 1980's. She worked for various floral shops, including Bice's Florists in Hurst, Texas. She also helped the Texas Girls' Choir in the late 1990's/early 2000's with seamstress jobs, cleaned HUD homes, worked handing out grocery store samples, and also volunteered at the I Can Still Shine program by sewing, making floral arrangements, transporting goods, and whatever else was asked of her. Pat lived in California, and several Naval bases during the 1940's and 1950's including Hawaii, Minnesota with her Shortridge grandparents, Maryland, and Texas. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, needlework, jewelry making, flower arranging, other crafts, woodworking, puzzles, drawing, doll making and collecting, ceramics, and loved to make things for others and give them away. Pat was baptized in the Methodist Church, attended Peace Lutheran Church, and later became Baptist. She sang in the church choir at the Baptist church and assisted daughter Ms. Dottie at the North Richland Hills and Hurst Rec Centers with classes.
Pat is survived by her husband, David Daniel Mayes; children, Dorothy Marie Johnson Nicholson, husband, Craig Michael Nicholson, Bernard McGuire Johnson, Jr., wife Lani Johnson, Michael Allen Johnson, wife, Karen Johnson, Robert Lyle Johnson, life partner, Francisca Mejorado, stepson, Jason Bryant, wife, Mary Bryant, stepdaughters, Gina Quigley, husband, Shawn Quigley, Marcie Davis, husband, Patrick Davis, and Robin Mayes; grandchildren, Phillip and Megan Nicholson, Gary and Amber Nicholson, Elissa and Zachary Grannan, Nicholas Johnson, Jessica Johnson, Jenny Johnson, Ashley and Greg Luthman; step grandchildren, Daniel Carter, McKayla Davis, and Shameus Davis; Great-grandchildren - Brandon Nicholson, Breanna and Justin Kee, Emaly Nicholson, Lilly Nicholson, Ethan Grannan, Zoey Grannan, Hope Carter, Emma Luthman, Jonah Luthman, Leo Luthman, and Amelia Luthman; great-great-grandchild, Paetonn Nicholson; siblings, Michael Gould; and sister-in-law, Cathy Gould; and her pet, Nubbins.
She is predeceased by her parents Madeline Jane Shortridge & Orville Paul Gould; siblings, Richard Gould, and Carol Clozzen; and her pets, Persians and Irish Setters, Tortoise shell cats, Rusty, Annie, Trixie, and Shadow.
