Patty J. Schwestka (1933-2013)
Waterloo— Patty Jean Baker Schwestka, 80, of Ft. Worth, TX, formerly of Waterloo, died Sunday , Dec. 22, 2013 at North Hills Hospital, North Richland Hills, TX., following a brief illness.
She was born March 22, 1933, in Waterloo, Ia., daughter of Lee F. Baker and Dora Mabel Wilharm Baker. She married Dean Clayton Schwestka on June 9, 1956, in Waterloo, IA. He died Dec. 26, 1991.
She attended West Waterloo High School and graduated in 1951. After graduation, she attended Wartburg College and received a two year Business degree in 1953. She had a beautiful voice and toured with the Wartburg Choir while attending the College. Not only did she and her husband instill a love of music in their family, they also passed along their love of country and, their gratitude to the service men and women of the Armed Forces.
Survived by: two sons, Brad of Waterloo and Chad (Michelle) of Hurst, TX, a daughter
Lynn Cooke of Watauga, TX, her grandchildren, Clayton Schwestka, Catherine Bennett, Kyle Feemster, Reagan and Keaton Schwestka, a sister Betty (Merwin) Dieckmann of Macon,NC , (formerly of Waterloo) a brother Richard (Jan) Baker of Canton, OH and many nieces and nephews who will cherish her memory.
Preceded in death by: Her husband, her parents and a brother, Robert Lee Baker.
Memorials: may be directed to the USO, Wounded Warriors Project or the AMVETS in lieu of flowers.
Patty was an enthusiastic shopper, and especially loved Minneapolis at Christmas, but she was most pleased to watch her children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews welcome home the returning soldiers at DFW.
