It’s difficult to describe a man’s life in such a few words. That he was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and friend just doesn’t seem adequate. He was born on November 2, 1940 in Wichita Falls to Paul Sr. and Thelma Burris. He was an only child and spent his younger years in Houston, Nocona and Stephenville where his father was a court reporter. The family moved to Arlington while Paul was in grade school. He played sports and met many friends there. As a teenager, his dad taught him to box and he became a member of the Arlington Golden Gloves team, doing very well. After high school, he joined the Air Force. About the same time, he met Karen, from Fort Worth, on a blind date and they married December 1960. Paul and Karen were stationed at Otis AFB on Cape Cod, Massachusetts where later their first son, Brent, was born. After active duty, the family moved back to Arlington and Paul started his 38 years at Bell Helicopter. He always considered his bell family some of his dearest friends.
While living in Arlington, a second son, Bret, was added to the family and shortly thereafter, they moved to Euless where they have lived since 1969. Their loving daughter, Kasey, was born in 1976. The family enjoyed camping, boating, fishing along with Paul playing golf and coaching the boys in football, basketball and baseball. His love of family was always first. After retiring, golf became his favorite pastime, especially his weekly game with friends.
He was first diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in December of 2007 and with the special skill of Dr. Peter Rutledge, Paul made it another 9 plus years, still playing golf. The family would like to thank Dr. Marc Chapman, Jennifer and the staff at NETIMA for the many, many years of excellent loving care.
Survivors: Paul is loved and remembered forever by his wife Karen of 56 years; his son Brent; son Bret and daughter in law Angie; daughter Kasey and son in law Justin Townsend; and three super grandkids, Mattisyn, Jacie and Tate; a niece, Terri and her daughter, Courtney; nephew, Jason; and many caring friends and neighbors. He will be forever in our hearts.
